Tax Manager – Real Estate

to join our growing team in Dallas, TX. This role will be a key leader in shaping the tax function for Leon’s real estate portfolio, which spans development, investment, and operating entities across multiple jurisdictions. This is a high-visibility position, working closely with executive leadership and external advisors to deliver world-class compliance, reporting, and tax planning. The right candidate will bring deep real estate tax expertise, strong partnership taxation skills, and a hands-on mindset suited for a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment. Key Responsibilities Compliance & Reporting: Work closely with divisional accounting and finance teams to ensure high-quality data and accurate tax reporting. Partner with divisional accounting teams to ensure accurate entity structuring, tax basis calculations, and regulatory compliance. Manage and direct external tax advisors for the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns, including investor reporting (K-1s). Oversee federal, state, and local tax compliance for Leon’s real estate partnerships, joint ventures, and operating entities. Review and manage investor reporting deliverables, including complex K-1s across multiple jurisdictions. Monitor and coordinate state and local tax obligations, including property tax considerations. Provide tax planning and structuring guidance for acquisitions, dispositions, and development projects, including 1031 exchanges and joint venture structures. Evaluate the impact of evolving tax legislation on real estate investments and advise leadership accordingly. Business Partnership: Collaborate with internal finance and accounting teams to ensure accuracy of data flowing into tax reporting. Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, providing insights on transaction tax impacts and long-term planning. Governance & Risk Management: Manage tax audits, inquiries, and authority correspondence. Establish and maintain strong internal tax policies, procedures, and controls. Ensure tax-related compliance with entity governance requirements. Leadership & Development: Mentor junior staff, providing technical training and development opportunities. Help lead cross-functional education on real estate tax issues to increase organizational awareness. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Minimum 6+ years of U.S. tax experience with strong real estate partnership expertise. Deep technical knowledge of partnership taxation and multi-state compliance. Strong transaction tax experience, including 1031 exchanges. Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to manage external advisors and lead cross-functional projects. Ability to take initiative, learn independently, and adapt in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance. Comfortable self-learning and taking ownership of tasks while contributing in a dynamic, team-oriented setting. Preferred: CPA license (active). Master’s degree in Taxation or JD with tax specialization. Experience with real estate development companies, private equity real estate funds, or family offices.
