HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our national Power Generation team. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will join a highly capable, multi-discipline team that supports power and energy projects primarily within the utility, IPP, industrial, and institutional sectors. Primary duties involve leadership of the project mechanical team, coordination with other engineering disciplines, monitoring and communication of project status, and providing mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on technical and contractual levels.

Role and Responsibilities HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our national Power Generation team. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will work with a highly capable, multi-discipline team that supports power and energy projects within utility, IPP, industrial, and institutional sectors. Primary duties typically involve leadership of the project mechanical team, coordination with other engineering disciplines, monitoring, and communication of project status, and providing mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both technical and contractual levels.
Lead the project mechanical team and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
Monitor and communicate project status and provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on technical and contractual levels.
Project roles vary by size and type; typical roles include lead mechanical engineer and project engineering manager and may include project manager.
Most tasks are performed in a collaborative manner with engineers and designers from several other disciplines.
Preferred candidates will have significant experience with utility-scale power generation systems and equipment and the ability to plan, schedule, and lead design projects.
Deliverables include construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates.
Significant experience with the design and specification of power generation systems for simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects is preferred.
Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design.
Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertise.
Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.
Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm desired.
Minimum 10 years of experience, ideally in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects.
Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments.
Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Willing to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs.
Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget.
Less than 10% travel for meetings with clients and vendors as well as project site visits.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
A minimum of 10 years of experience.
Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license.
Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit).
