The Senior Mechanical Power Engineer will lead mechanical engineering efforts on projects, coordinate with other disciplines, monitor and communicate project status, and provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer activities.

Responsibilities

Join HDR's national Power Generation team as a Senior Mechanical Power Engineer and lead mechanical engineering on power generation projects; coordinate with other disciplines; monitor project status; communicate with project teams and clients; provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer activities.

Lead the project mechanical team; coordinate with engineering disciplines; monitor status and deliverables; support contractual obligations and codes/standards compliance.

Deliverables include construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates.

Work on design and specification of power generation systems for simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects.

Project roles vary by size and type; typical roles include lead mechanical engineer and project engineering manager; tasks are collaborative with engineers and designers from multiple disciplines.

Preferred to have significant experience with utility-scale power generation systems and the ability to plan, schedule, and lead design projects.

Mentor less experienced engineers and EITs; operate within established schedules and budgets; travel less than 10% for client/vendor meetings and project site visits.

Qualifications

BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.

Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design.

Gas turbine, steam turbine, and/or large reciprocating engine experience.

Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.

Desirable: prior experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm.

Minimum 10 years of fossil power industry experience with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects.

Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments; excellent communication and analytical skills.

Willingness to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs.

Proficiency in working within an established schedule and budget.

Travel Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering.

Minimum 10 years of experience.

Professional Engineer (PE) license or P.Eng.

Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS-CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit).

Active participation in an employee-owned culture.

Compensation and Location The targeted salary range for this position is $108,661 - $204,250 (depends on skills, experience, education, and location).

Primary Location: United States-Michigan-Ann Arbor

Other Locations: United States-wide (locations across multiple states and cities).
