Overview Senior Mechanical Power Engineer

HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to help clients develop, contract, and implement natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects while serving as Engineer of Record or Owner’s Engineer.

Responsibilities

Lead the project mechanical team and coordinate with other engineering disciplines; monitor and communicate project status; provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both technical and contractual levels.

Prepare and review construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates.

Lead design and execution for power generation systems including simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and reciprocating engines.

Project roles will vary and may include lead mechanical engineer, project engineering manager, and/or project manager; most tasks are performed collaboratively with engineers and designers from multiple disciplines.

Collaborate with HDR’s national Power Generation team and support projects for utility, IPP, industrial, and institutional clients.

Travel up to 10% for client meetings, vendor coordination, and site visits.

Qualifications Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.

Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design.

Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertise.

Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.

Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm is desired.

Minimum 10 years of experience, ideally in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects.

Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments.

Excellent communication and analytical skills.

Willing to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs.

Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget.

Travel up to 10% for client and vendor coordination and project site visits.

Preferred Qualifications

Significant experience with utility-scale power generation systems and ability to plan, schedule, and lead design projects.

Design and specification experience for power generation systems including simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects.

Experience in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects is desirable.
