Job Title: Electrical Engineer 3 Duration: 18 Months Location: Pomona, CA 91768 - Hybrid (Wed-Thurs) Pay Range: $45 - $48/hour W2 Description: Support capital program type projects as needed (DSP, TSP, SUB IR, DSERP, etc.). Education Requirement
Bachelor's Degree Responsibilities
Gather and evaluate line data of transmission, sub-transmission, distribution systems, transformer test data, generator data, etc. Model systems on appropriate software tools (such as CAPE), perform short circuit studies and protection coordination studies necessary for completing relay settings, prepare protection summaries, and coordinate relay settings with neighboring utilities, balancing authorities and WECC/NERC PRC compliance. Issue Substation Relays and field Auto recloser settings (GE, SEL and Electromagnetic) via ASPEN relay database to the field; support Test technicians in-servicing or commissioning relay settings; review/approve returned as-left relay setting files; communicate with Test technicians for revisions as necessary. Provide support to Test Technicians and Operators. Travel to the field may be required from time to time per project job walk or testing needs. QA Support in review of protection deliverables (settings, relay electronic files, calculations, logic, etc.) Design protective relaying systems to ensure the safety and reliability of the grid by reviewing AC/DC/Logic drawings Review and sign off one-line, elementary, logic diagrams and work with other discipline engineers to support sub transmission and distribution substation expansion, substation automation and infrastructure replacement projects. QA Support in review of protection deliverables (settings, relay electronic files, calculations, logic, etc.) Design protective relaying systems to ensure the safety and reliability of the grid by reviewing AC/DC/Logic drawings Review and sign off one-line, elementary, logic diagrams and work with other discipline engineers - substation engineers, Distribution Field engineers, project engineers, apparatus engineers - to support sub transmission and distribution substation expansion, substation automation and infrastructure replacement projects. Required Skills/Attributes
Experience with protection, substation and/or distribution engineering in the electric utility industry or equivalent Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related technical discipline 10 years of experience Developed and peer-reviewed protective relay settings for systems ranging from 12kV to 765kV Led and executed short circuit studies and designed step distance and pilot protection schemes for 44–100kV lines Ten years of engineering experience related to Transmission & Distribution Knowledge of transmission system operation (line-and-bus arrangements, reclosing practices, etc.) Knowledge of System One-Line Diagram and relay AC and DC Schematics as well as AC and DC wiring standards Knowledge of digital logic design principles and experience in developing logic diagrams Experience in developing relay settings and familiarity with relay setting software (GE EnerVista UR Setup, SEL AcSELerator) Knowledge of NERC PRC Compliances (PRC 23, 27, 26) Experience with CAPE, CYME, ASPEN relay database or Blue Beam Software Ability to interpret/apply/design electrical one-line, elementary, protection logic diagrams Experience in system studies, fault calculation, and setting Electromechanical Relays, SEL and GE microprocessor relays using Accelerator and URPC software Desired Skills/Attributes
Experience developing logic diagrams, programming relay settings and preparing setting documents for Test technicians and supporting in-servicing relays for bulk-power transmission lines Experience with automation of sub-transmission substations, protective relay upgrades, and protection setting calculations in distribution lines Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and Project Effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, and staying current with technology Good communication skills (oral and written) for client-focused support PE desired but not required Seniority level
