APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED FROM: All Persons Interested DIVISION/SECTION: Transportation and Drainage Operations/Stormwater Operations REPORTING LOCATION: 611 Walker Street, 20th Floor WORKDAYS & HOURS: M – F, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (hours may be adjusted) Description Of Duties / Essential Functions
Prepares and reviews plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical correspondence, reports, and project schedules. Coordinates the implementation of projects and contracts. Provides technical support to operation and maintenance staff. Interprets codes and regulations. Interfaces with various service lines and departments. Investigates and/or responds to inquiries from technical personnel, regulatory agencies and the general public. Communicates directly and indirectly with consultants and contractors. Conducts and coordinates special projects. Provides technical guidance and training to staff. Prepares administrative documents and correspondence such as reports, letters, forms, procedural guidelines and schedules. Review and monitor work activities performed by external consultants. Analyzes work processes and implements improvements to enhance the functioning of drainage infrastructure, equipment and systems. Performs other technical work relative to drainage infrastructure. May assist in on-the-job training and development of new hires. Working Conditions
The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level. Minimum Requirements
Educational Requirements
Requires graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering that is approved by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers as of satisfactory standing, and possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act. Experience Requirements
No experience is required. License Requirements
Possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act. Must obtain a Professional Engineer license from the State of Texas within seven years from hire date as an Engineer-In-Training with the City of Houston. Preferences
Solid oral and written communication skills Experience with process engineering for stormwater management Able to handle multiple, competing, and changing priorities Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including: Excel Word Outlook Teams SharePoint Experience with CAD and ArcGIS mapping software Strong interpersonal skills, team player attitude, and the ability to establish excellent working relationships at diverse levels Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for Selection / Skills Tests Required
