Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description: The Mechanical Design Engineer plays a critical role in supporting our customers and sales team through designing, developing, building, and testing mechanical systems and components. The primary focus is on design framing and guarding solutions featuring aluminum extrusion and our manufacturing partner 80/20 Inc., but designs will also incorporate products from other lines, including enclosures, pneumatics, robot pedestals, pendant arms, and machined components. This role will also support our Integration Division in conceptualizing, designing, and testing custom fabricated parts for robot/cobot cells and other automated systems. Candidates must have a thorough understanding of mechanical and structural design principles, physics, and proficiency in 2D/3D design and modeling software. Responsibilities: Utilize AutoCAD and SolidWorks to generate designs and models for various applications. Interface with customers to gather requirements and specifications. Develop pricing and quotes, including follow-up discussions to explain design intricacies. Gain a deep understanding of products from 80/20 Inc. and related vendor partners. Collaborate effectively with sales engineers, controls engineers, manufacturing personnel, and project managers throughout project cycles. Build and test prototypes to evaluate functionality, performance, safety, and usability. Prepare assembly instructions and other documentation for in-house or customer use. Review customer specifications to determine project feasibility. Qualifications: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or 5 years of equivalent experience. Experience in industrial automation, mechanical design, or manufacturing. Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software. Experience with 80/20 or similar aluminum extrusion systems. Ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving to mechanical challenges. Detail-oriented with excellent time management skills to handle multiple projects.
