This position offers a 3-tier paid progression program based on the state water licensure program and demonstration of operational proficiencies, with training provided. Salary:

Negotiable based on applicant's current Plant Operator Virginia License. Additional Benefits:

Shift Differential offered. This position requires you to work at the College Hill and Abert facilities, 12-hour shifts (day or night shifts) - 2 days/nights on and 2 days/nights off, 365 days a year. Operate pumps, control panels, chemical feeders, filters, electric motors, and other water plant equipment to produce potable water; Adjust valves and controls to maintain constant flow of water; Make routine physical and chemical tests of water samples; Keep accurate and neat records of test results; Adjust chemical feed rates; Handle hazardous chemicals and fill dry chemical hoppers; Change charts on meters and gauges; Backwash filters as needed; Monitor meters and indicators; Conduct plant rounds, lock doors and gates as required; Respond to citizen complaints and dispatch service crews; Inspect pumping stations and perform minor repairs; Respond to emergencies as required. ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Perform other duties to serve citizens; Accept special assignments during emergencies or declared States of Emergency. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED; semi-skilled mechanical/laboratory work, supplemented by post-secondary courses in Science, Math, Engineering, or plant operations preferred. Possession of valid Virginia driver's license with an acceptable record; may require additional licenses. Ownership or access to a telephone. Background checks required. Must complete IS100 and IS700 NIMS training within 90 days of employment; higher levels may be required.
