The Department of Environmental Services (ENV), Environmental Quality Division, is recruiting for a Civil Engineer II to be located at Kapolei Hale. We seek an individual who possesses strong fundamentals and follows well-established engineering practices. This person will perform introductory professional engineering work related to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits, Underground Injection Control (UIC) permits, Underground Storage Tank (UST) permits, water quality monitoring, air permits, and other functions of the Monitoring & Compliance Branch.

What Youu'll Do

Assist senior engineers and branch head by preparing correspondence, reports, and permit applications to comply with permit requirements.

Perform routine engineering calculations of monitoring or other data and prepare graphs, tables, charts, etc.

Assist in researching and gathering data and information for lawsuits and administrative enforcement actions.

Assist in conducting field investigations and taking field measurements and samples for spills, bypasses, seepage incidents, odor problems, and plan effluent qualities.

Perform other related duties as required.

Special Work Requirements

Exposure to construction hazards and disease germs through the handling of sewage and sludge.

Field investigative work includes climbing ladders, carrying samples, measuring and testing equipment, and walking on uneven and obstructed surfaces such as platforms, streambeds, etc.

Will serve as Disaster Response Worker during declared civil defense emergencies.

Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM) – Storm Water Quality Division The Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM), Storm Water Quality Division, is recruiting for two (2) Civil Engineer II positions located at Kapolei Hale.

These Positions Are Responsible For

Professional engineering projects related to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Storm Water Management Program.

Planning, design, construction management, product evaluation, research & development, system optimization, database management, and Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping.

These positions may also involve participation in periodic and temporary cross training and supplementary work exercises and activities in support of other branches within the division to comply with its regulatory obligations of the City's storm water permit.

Education Requirement Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with a bachelors degree in an engineering specialty.

Experience Requirement One (1) year of non-registered professional civil engineering experience. Such experience shall demonstrate knowledge of:

the principles and practices of general civil engineering;

engineering mathematics;

engineering mechanics and the mechanics of materials;

the principles and practices of topographic surveying; and

structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and sanitary engineering principles and practices to the extent these apply to the general field of civil engineering.

Such experience must also demonstrate the ability to:

do engineering drafting and simple design work;

interpret plans, specifications and land descriptions;

plot survey notes; and

prepare maps, plans, profiles and cross-sections.

Substitution: A Master's degree in Civil Engineering from a regionally-accredited college or university will substitute for the one year of non-registered professional civil engineering experience. The substitution must be met at the time of application.

Non-Qualifying Experience Having the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as qualifying for the position. Your overall experience must have been of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position. Work experience while in an engineering student intern position will not be creditable as equivalent to professional engineering experience.

License Requirement Possession of an appropriate valid drivers license (Type 3), as required.
