Payroll Specialist
LOCATION:
New York City, NY
HOURS:
Full-time; Hourly
COMPENSATION:
$27-$36 per hour
ABOUT THE POSITION
We are looking for a talented Payroll Specialist to join our North American Payroll Team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a thriving company within a dynamic and unique industry. Based in our New York City office, you will support and report directly to the Payroll Director. The ideal candidate will have at least four years of experience as a Payroll Specialist, working with HRIS/HCM systems (such as ADP, UKG, Ceridian), and possess strong, hands-on payroll expertise. This role supports payroll operations across multiple states and venues, including both union and non-union employees.
Responsibilities
Process employee changes such as deductions, garnishments, pay rate changes, withholding changes, and terminations
Review timecard data (ABI Mastermind and UKG Ready) for compliance with state, local and department work rules
Import and reconcile variances in UKG Time and Attendance
Apply knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreements to payroll processing and benefits
Validate reports and reconcile payroll prior to transmission to UKG
Maintain accurate electronic payroll files and records
Assist with union audits and related health and pension contributions
Send benefit breakdowns to unions and Accounts Payable for processing
Support cross-training of payroll staff to ensure critical payroll functions are carried out efficiently
Assist with issuance of W-2s and 1095-Cs
Other payroll duties as assigned
Experience and Skills
At least 2-years’ payroll processing experience required
Multi-state payroll processing a plus
Experience using UKG or similar HCM systems preferred
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and VLOOKUPs
Experience working with Union employees preferred
Knowledge of payroll best practices and basic federal and state regulations
Competencies
Strong multitasking, analytical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and support change
Strong attention to detail
Exhibit ethical behavior and ability to handle confidential information
Strong work ethic and ability to self-motivate to complete tasks with minimal supervision

Able to operate within and meet deadlines
Ability to prioritize assignments/projects and multi-task within restricted time
Outgoing and positive attitude, complemented by a professional demeanor
