3rd Class Marine Electrician - Interior Communications AKima Systems Engineering (ASE) is seeking a 3rd Class Marine Electrician to work in Suffolk, Virginia. Responsibilities
Marine Electricians install, connect, test, and maintain electrical systems for interior communications and other purposes on marine vessels. Maintain and repair electrical systems on marine vessels; troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electronic equipment on board and in shipyard facilities. Apply basic technical knowledge to perform simple or routine tasks following detailed instructions; replace components, wire circuits, repair simple electronic equipment, and take test readings using instruments such as digital multimeters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, curve tracers, and oscilloscopes. Work under close supervision with technical guidance from a supervisor or higher-level technician; work is checked frequently for accuracy. Demonstrate quality, safety, integrity, respect, engagement, and performance aligned with company values. Under guidance, install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify equipment and structures for fleet modernization on US Navy surface ships. Layout, fabricate, and install electrical wiring, coaxial cable, or fiber optic cables on Navy vessels. Read and interpret schematics and blueprints; work from engineering drawings, charts, work orders, and technical documents including controlled work packages and test documents. Troubleshoot, repair, and install electrical equipment and cables; assist with diagnosing equipment to efficiently eliminate problems. Remove and install cables found overhead, along bulkheads, or under decks; repair and replace cables/connectors. Apply understanding of production processes to complete complicated and non-routine tasks related to shipboard installations in accordance with quality and safety procedures. Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications; maintain effective supervisor and managerial communications. Remove, plan, execute, install, and modify electrical cable, cableways, conductors, connectors, strain relief, fasteners, and equipment aboard naval vessels. Complete electrical and data conductor disconnections and reconnections for new or existing equipment. Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or industrial/trade school certificate. Minimum of two to three years of experience operating, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment on-board Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, MSC or maritime vessels; practical shipboard experience with HM&E systems and equipment. Familiarity with Interior Communications (IC) systems. U.S. citizenship; ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret security clearance. Pass pre-employment drug test and background check. Ability to access government installations by obtaining and maintaining a DBIS credential. Ability to work overtime and weekends, and to travel outside the Suffolk, VA area if required. Experience with Fiber Optic cables and multi-pin connectors; possession of trade-specific hand tools. Experience working in a team and effective communication skills. Ability to meet NSI 009-73 requirements (inspection, testing, installation, removal, and repair of shipboard electrical cabling and equipment). Experience with cable installations including banding, terminal boxes, connection boxes, connectors, equipment, penetrations, cableways, hangers, and related components. Understanding of MCT, MCP, and Stuffing Tube procedures; bonding and grounding of electrical equipment; NAVSEA standards; and safe use of multimeters and megohmmeters. Experience assisting with troubleshooting, maintaining, installing, and repairing electrical distribution systems and cabling. Preferred Qualifications
Current NAVSEA Multipin Connector Certifications (NSI 009-73) preferred. Current NAVSEA Fiber Optic certification (NSI 009-123) preferred. NAVSEA Cableway Improvement Program certifications preferred. Vocational school or skilled trades certificate program completion preferred. Current or active DoD Secret clearance preferred. OSHA 10 Maritime Certification a plus; Microsoft Office knowledge is a plus. Physical Demands
Must be able to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes (no less than 30 lbs). Work on ladders and in extreme temperature environments aboard ships, in shipyards, and in confined spaces; may involve high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions; may require working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
