Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) is looking for a 3rd Class Marine Electrician to work in Suffolk, Virginia. Travel:

50% travel required within and outside of the continental United States. Work Schedule:

Monday through Saturday, 10 hours a day (as needed). Responsibilities

Marine Electricians install, connect, test, and maintain electrical systems for a variety of purposes, including interior communications. Maintain and repair electrical systems on marine vessels. Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electronic equipment on board vessels and in shipyard facilities. Read and interpret schematics and blueprints; work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, work orders, and technical documents including controlled work packages and testing documents. Layout, fabricate, and install electrical wiring, coaxial cable, or fiber optic cabling onboard Navy vessels. Assist with troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment to efficiently eliminate problems; perform removal and installation of cables found overhead, along bulkheads, or under the deck; repair and replace cables/connectors. Apply understanding of production processes toward completing complicated and non-routine tasks related to shipboard installations in accordance with quality and safety procedures. Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications; maintain effective communications with supervisors and managers. Remove, plan, execute, install, and modify electrical cableways and equipment aboard naval vessels; complete electrical and data conductor disconnections and reconnections on existing and new equipment for complete installations. Qualifications

Must be a US citizen. Clearance:

DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain and maintain one. Education:

High school diploma, GED, or industrial/trade school certificate. Experience:

Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of experience in operation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment on-board Navy vessels, U.S. Coast Guard vessels, MSC or Maritime vessels; practical shipboard HM&E experience. Familiar with one or more Interior Communications (IC) systems: MC, HYDRA, IVN, IVCN, SATCC, SIWCS. Ability to access government installations by obtaining and maintaining a DBIS credential to perform work on-board US Naval vessels or government assignments. Ability to work overtime and weekends as required; travel outside the Suffolk, VA area if needed; experience with fiber optic cables and multi-pin connectors; trade-specific hand tools; strong teamwork and communication. Understanding and ability to accomplish NSI 009-73 requirements (inspection, testing, installation, removal, and repair of shipboard electrical cabling and equipment) including related cable installations, bonding/grounding, testing, and NVSEA standards. Experience assisting with troubleshooting, maintaining, installing, and repairing electrical distribution systems and cabling; reading electrical drawings and schematics; proper use of multimeters and megohmmeters; NAVSEA Standard items. Preferred Qualifications

Current NAVSEA NSI 009-73 Mult-pin Connector Certification is highly preferred. Current NAVSEA NSI 009-123 Fiber Optic certification preferred. NAVSEA Cableway Improvement Program certifications preferred. Vocational school or skilled trades certificate program graduates preferred. Current or active DoD Secret clearance preferred. OSHA 10 Maritime Certification a plus; Microsoft Office knowledge is a plus. Physical Demands

Must be able to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes (exact weight determined by job, but not less than 30 lbs). Climb ladders and work in extreme temperatures aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces; may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions; work aloft or over vessel sides.
