3rd Class Marine Electrician - Interior Communications (apx 50% Travel) Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) is looking for a 3rd Class Marine Electrician to work in Suffolk, Virginia. 50% travel required within and outside the continental United States. Work Schedule: Monday through Saturday, 10 hours a day (as needed).

Responsibilities

Marine Electricians install, connect, test, and maintain electrical systems for interior communications and other shipboard applications.

Maintain and repair electrical systems on marine vessels; troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment on board vessels and in shipyard facilities.

Apply technical knowledge to perform simple or routine tasks following detailed instructions; replace components, wire circuits, repair equipment; take test readings using instruments (digital multimeters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, curve tracers, oscilloscopes).

Work under close supervision with guidance from supervisor or higher-level technician; work checked for accuracy.

Display quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement, and performance aligned with company values.

Under guidance, install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify equipment and structures for fleet modernization on US Navy surface ships.

Layout, fabricate, and install electrical wiring, coaxial cable, or fiber optic cable onboard Navy vessels.

Read and interpret schematics and blueprints; work from engineering drawings, charts, work orders, technical documents, and managed work packages.

Troubleshoot, repair, and install electrical equipment and cables; assist with diagnosing issues to eliminate problems.

Remove and install cables found overhead, along bulkheads, or under decks; repair and replace cables/connectors.

Ensure installations meet established quality and safety procedures; inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.

Maintain communications with supervisors and managers; plan and execute tasks aboard naval vessels or field locations as required.

Remove, plan, install, modify electrical cabling, cableways, conductors, connectors, strain relief, fasteners, and equipment aboard naval vessels.

Complete electrical and data conductor disconnections and reconnections for new and existing equipment.

Qualifications

Must be a US citizen.

Clearance: DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain and maintain one.

Education: High school diploma, GED, or industrial/trade school certificate.

Minimum 2–3 years of experience in operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems on Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, MSC, or maritime vessels; practical shipboard HM&E experience.

Familiarity with one or more Interior Communications (IC) systems listed (MC, HYDRA, IVN, IVCN, SATCC, SIWCS).

Ability to access government installations with DBIS credential; willing to work overtime and weekends as required.

Experience with Fiber Optic cables and multi-pin connectors; trade tools possession; good teamwork and communication skills.

Understanding of NSI 009-73 requirements (inspection, testing, installation, removal, repair of shipboard cabling and equipment) and related procedures.

Experience with NAVSEA standards and safe use of multimeters and megohmmeters.

Preferred Qualifications

Current NAVSEA Multipin Connector Certifications (NSI 009-73) preferred.

Current NAVSEA Fiber Optic certification (NSI 009-123) preferred.

NAVSEA Cableway Improvement Program certifications preferred.

Vocational school or skilled trades certificate program completed; DoD Secret clearance preferred.

OSHA 10 Maritime Certification; Microsoft Office knowledge...

Physical Demands

Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment; minimum 30 lbs as required.

Able to work on ladders, in extreme temperatures, aboard ships and in shipyards, in confined spaces; may involve high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions.

May ride ships at sea for extended periods; respirator usage may be required.

Travel: 50% travel required within and outside the continental United States.
