Join our team of scientists and engineers as we develop next-generation cell and gene therapies for brain-computer interfaces and optogenetic vision restoration. You'll contribute directly to pioneering research with the potential to restore sight to the blind and create revolutionary neural interfaces. This is a perfect opportunity for an experienced animal research technician to apply their expertise in complex rodent procedures in a fast-paced research environment.
Role responsibilities:
Execute precision intravitreal injections in mice
Perform intracranial injections and stereotactic surgeries with sub-millimeter accuracy for targeted brain region delivery
Conduct comprehensive behavioral assessments including vision testing, cognitive function, and motor behavior evaluation
Administer precise drug dosing regimens via multiple routes (oral gavage, IP, IV, topical) with meticulous record-keeping
Support histology workflows including cardiac perfusions, tissue harvesting, and sample preparation
Maintain detailed experimental logs, dosing records, and behavioral data
Ensure strict compliance with all IACUC protocols, animal welfare standards, and regulatory requirements
Key qualifications:
A highly skilled animal research technician with 3+ years of intensive hands-on rodent work experience
Expert-level proficiency in intraocular injection techniques with demonstrated success in high-volume procedures
Advanced experience with stereotactic surgery and intracranial injection methodologies
Extensive background in rodent behavioral testing and assessment protocols
Exceptional attention to detail with flawless documentation and record-keeping practices
Strong understanding of IACUC regulations, animal welfare principles, and ethical research conduct
Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining the highest procedural standards
Preferred qualifications:
Experience with advanced behavioral testing equipment and automated data collection systems
Proficiency in retinal imaging, OCT, and ophthalmic examination techniques
Background in neurodegenerative disease models or vision research applications
Experience with survival surgery techniques and post-operative care protocols
Knowledge of rodent anesthesia protocols and physiological monitoring
Strong quantitative skills for behavioral data analysis and interpretation
Previous work in academic or biotech research environments with rigorous quality standards
Science is required under California law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on the indicated salary band. The base salary range for this full-time position is $90,000-$115,000 annually + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is not included in these numbers.
