After completing all the steps, click Preview to open a preview of your listing in a new window or click Proceed to Checkout where you can purchase the listing for the duration you specified. $30.00 per hour / 18 hours per week POSITION SUMMARY: The Crime Analyst provides liaison work to the Malden Police Crime Reporting and Analysis Unit by collecting data of current crime trends, patterns and locations; distributes this information to appropriate Malden Police Department (“MPD”) personnel, and forecasts future departmental needs for personnel deployment. Duties include analyzing, organizing and presenting crime data and statistics. Perform statistical and analytical research involving the use of computer applications, random statistical sampling, correlation and regression probability studies, gathering and analyzing crime data for crime pattern detection, suspect crime correlations, and target–suspect forecasting. Prepare reports on crime data and trends for MPD personnel. Deliver presentations to MPD personnel, members of the community and outside agencies. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS and DUTIES: Analysis Perform tactical, strategic/operational, and administrative analysis supporting the work of the MPD. Conduct crime analysis (detecting crime series/patterns, forecasting crime trends, identifying suspect/crime relationships), statistical analysis using qualitative and quantitative methodology, and utilizing Geographic Information Systems (“GIS”) for spatial analysis of crime trends. Provide timely, accurate, reliable and high-quality crime data and pertinent information to all the members of the MPD and outside law enforcement agencies. Report specific submissions to the Crime Reporting Unit for the Commonwealth. Query and analyze statistics in an effort to link cases by key factors and disseminate information about known and newly discovered patterns to all department personnel. This analysis improves the safety of the community by facilitating appropriate police response which shall have an objective to prevent and reduce crime in the City. Conduct resource allocation and beat reconfiguration studies for budgeting and scheduling purposes. Study current literature on research methodology and police issues and make appropriate recommendations to improve analysis practices. Communication Support the department’s Crime Reporting process, regularly working with the MPD Management to facilitate structured discussions, problem solving and follow-up to problem resolution. Communicate effectively with division commanders and present statistics as needed. Work in conjunction with Criminal Investigation Division to provide timely information for investigations. Develop and deliver presentations to senor law enforcement staff in the MPD, Boston Regional Intelligence Center, Massachusetts State Police Fusion Center, and other law enforcement agencies as directed. Write and distribute daily Crime Bulletin to law enforcement personnel. Using mapping software, develop maps of “hot zone” areas and communicate timely to law enforcement personnel. Prepare Weekly Crime Reports, manage Pawn Sheet Reports, and maintain department documentation and all related reports; and provide timely reports as needed for Department Management. Compile information, analyze findings, make interpretations and write comprehensive reports. Develop hard copy map products for department use and public presentations. Manage monthly Opioid Task Force Meetings. Overdose/Medical Aid follow-ups. Customer Service Work effectively with other departments, law enforcement agencies and the general public. Attend weekly “HUB” meetings, and additional meetings and training sessions at the discretion of the Chief of Police or designee. Other Related Duties Perform job assignments and other related functions, and projects assigned by the Chief of Police or designee. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field. One (1) year of experience preferred. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Knowledge of law enforcement operations, procedures, Uniform Crime Reports (“UCR”) and National Incident Based Reporting System (“NIBRS”). Knowledge of Criminological theory and practice. High level of proficiency with relational database and spreadsheet applications including Access and Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite applications. Must possess good oral and written communication and public-speaking skills. Ability to analyze data, develop and deliver presentations, write reports, conduct research. Ability to prepare and present complex and detailed statistical and narrative reports. Ability to work independently, think objectively and exhibit sound and accurate judgment. Must possess good interpersonal skills to successfully interact and communicate with police personnel, City employees and the community, as well as the ability to work effectively as a part of a team. Must have good vision for reading the information-based data and system entries, generated reports and written reports and requests. Must have good hearing due to the volume of contacts by phone and in the office. Must possess a high regard for strict confidentiality and attention to detail. Prior experience with Arc Map/Arc GIS preferred. Prior experience with IMC preferred. SUPERVISION RECEIVED
