Location: Near Mundelein, IL Salary: 80-95k Industry: Machinery Type Of Role: Direct Hire We are looking for a hands-on CNC Lathe Application Engineer with experience in robotic loading/unloading, part programming, and complete project setups. This role covers everything from machine setup to customer sign-off, including writing programs, setting up automation, and helping improve machine cycle times. Key Responsibilities
Turnkey Projects: Handle full CNC lathe projects from start to finish — including tooling, setup, programming, and improving cycle times. Part Programming: Write and test CNC lathe programs based on part drawings using G-code or CAM software. Machine Setup: Install and level machines, align parts, and hook up equipment like robots, bar feeders, and conveyors. Robot Setup: Set up robots for automatic loading/unloading. This includes programming the robot, safety setups, and communication between the machine and robot. Cycle Time Improvements: Review how long jobs take and find ways to make them faster and more efficient. Machine Run-Off: Test the machines internally and with the customer to make sure parts meet their requirements. Training and Support: Train customers on how to use the machine and provide support during and after installation. Teamwork: Work with sales, service, project managers, and engineers to get projects done right. Travel: Must be open to traveling to customer sites for installs and support (about 75%). Requirements
5+ years of experience working with CNC lathes (multi-axis is a plus). Experience setting up robots (like FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa, etc.) for CNC automation. Skilled in G-code programming and CAM software (Mastercam, Esprit, etc.). Strong knowledge of machining, tools, materials, and part drawings. Good troubleshooting and communication skills. Able to read engineering drawings and follow technical documents. Experience writing documentation or giving presentations is a plus. Seniority level
