EQUIVALENCY PROCEDURE Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications but believe they possess the equivalent must submit an Equivalency Application Form with full supporting documentation to the Human Resources Department (distinct from the online application). All non‑U.S. transcripts must be evaluated by an evaluation/translation service. The Equivalency Application Form is available on the Peralta website in the Human Resources area. Note:
Denial by the Equivalency Committee is final. If applying for another position in the same discipline, an Equivalency determination may be requested with additional evidence by the application deadline.
Application Procedures Required documents include:
Current resume detailing experience, education/training, and qualifications.
Copies of supporting credentials, if applicable.
Copies of transcripts from fully accredited college or university.
(This means we do not need official copies. Please do not mail or fax transcripts. You must scan and upload them.)
Transcripts: Diplomas will not substitute for transcripts. All transcripts must include degree awarded and confer date. A minimum of a Master’s degree must be conferred when the application is submitted. If your Ph.D. is not yet complete, you must also submit your conferred Master’s transcript. All non‑U.S. transcripts must include a certified evaluation/translation document.
Applications and attachments (resume, transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc.) must be submitted through the online process. We do not accept mailed or faxed applications or confidential letters of recommendation via email or fax. Letters of recommendation are optional.
Travel expenses for the interview and selection process will be borne by the candidate. Skype and phone interviews are not permitted.
Conditions of Employment
Appointment to the position is conditional upon the approval of the Chancellor. Pre‑employment requirements include: tuberculosis examination, fingerprinting, Immigration/Work Eligibility verification, and District policy for Social Security verification. Minimum Qualifications (Biology)
1) Master’s Degree in Biological Science, or 2) Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science AND Master’s Degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, or Marine Science, or 3) A fully satisfied lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing service to teach Biology, or 4) The equivalent qualifications. Applicants claiming equivalency must provide conclusive evidence. AND 5) Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds of faculty, staff, and students.
Notes
For non‑Master’s degree disciplines, the District requires four years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree and six years with an Associate’s degree. The minimum qualifications are outlined in the California Community Colleges Minimum Qualifications Handbook.
