Tax Senior, State and Local Tax - Unclaimed Property

Overview
The Tax Senior, State and Local Tax - Unclaimed Property applies industry knowledge and experience to clients by assisting in advising on tax implications and other accounting matters affecting business objectives, with emphasis on unclaimed property compliance and consulting. This very unique role enables use of tax/accounting skills in a consultative capacity, including project management, data analysis, and interaction with leadership on compliance and policy changes in unclaimed property. The role may involve coordinating with Core Tax and Audit Partners, Directors, and Senior Managers to provide SALT expertise to clients. Responsibilities
Research: identify complex situations, outline issues, determine sources of research; analyze findings and prepare detailed reports. Develop relationships with in-state/out-of-state DoT/DOR personnel, Department of Treasury, etc. Unclaimed Property Compliance: obtain and manipulate client data for escheat returns; use FSI Track, BDO Global Portal and other systems; import data; identify exemptions/deferrals; perform reconciliations; respond to state notices; assist with due diligence letters and client payments; provide exam support; communicate with clients and UP team members. Unclaimed Property Consulting: draft memorandums and opinions; assist in escheat planning processes; develop policies and procedures; represent clients in audits and voluntary disclosures; identify gift card planning opportunities; coordinate client interviews, workplans, and data organization; prepare schedules for analyses; assist with remediation procedures; develop exposure quantification models; assist with client refund reviews; apply tax sub-specialties and collaborate with STS professionals; ensure engagement letters are adopted and manage engagements; contribute to consultative selling strategies; participate in trade organizations and public speaking; update CRM; manage client expectations; project manage multiple clients and projects. Unclaimed Property Related Software: utilize FSI Track and other tax software; maintain knowledge of GL systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, AS/400, Epicor, etc.); engage in technology enhancements for UP. Supervisory Responsibilities: may supervise day-to-day workload of SALT Experienced Associates and Associates; ensure training on software; evaluate performance and assist in developing goals; provide performance feedback and evaluations. Education & Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics or Finance; two or more years of relevant tax/audit/forensic accounting experience; CPA/Attorney/Enrolled Agent preferred; proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with Power BI/Alteryx preferred; excellent verbal and written communication; strong analytical, organizational and multi-tasking abilities; ability to lead teams and manage client relationships. Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: capacity for effective team leadership, relationship-building, and professional development; executive presence; advanced tax standards application; deep knowledge of tax research sources and tax implications for clients.
