National High Magnetic Field Laboratory Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities are (i) developing independent and collaborative research program relating to solid-state NMR of biosolids and biological applications; (ii) pushing the frontiers of ultrahigh magnetic fields for biological solid-state NMR, as well as innovative NMR techniques and hardware like dynamic-nuclear polarization (DNP) and rf probes; and (iii) assisting in the management of the NHMFLs NMR User Program and Facility, which includes recruiting and collaborating with users. The Research Faculty will work with a team of engineers and scientists and be responsible for: (1) advancing a research program focused on high-field SSNMR techniques targeted for biological applications with both quadrupolar and spin-1/2 nuclei; (2) utilizing the high-field magnets at the NHMFL including the 1.5 GHz 36 T series-connected-hybrid (SCH) NMR, 600 MHz DNP systems for biosolids NMR user program, as well as future high-field instruments; (3) administering part of the NHMFLs NMR User Facility, which includes system management, maintenance, project initiation, planning, and execution with users; and (4) working with the Director of the NMR/MRI User Program on key research projects. This Research Faculty is expected to be a motivated researcher and team player with excellent communication skills, a collegial personality, and the vision to become a world-class researcher. The candidate will have support from a team of engineers and scientists and opportunities to collaborate with users from around the U.S. and international community, to apply for grants, to pursue individual research objectives, to publish their work, and to participate in national and international organizations and conferences. Qualifications

Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or Physics with research experience focused on biological solid-state NMR. Candidates should have strong experimental NMR expertise, including spectrometer operation, data processing, pulse-sequence development and implementation, probe hardware, and familiarity with biological sample preparation and handling. Preferred Qualifications

The candidate is expected to have excellent writing skills, a strong track record of publications, and experience working in a multidisciplinary research environment. Other Information

The NHMFLs NMR/MRI User Program operates a state-of-the-art user facility that conducts research at the frontiers of physics, chemistry, biology, and materials science with unique magnet technologies. It has an outstanding infrastructure with 13 NMR spectrometers (including 1.5 GHz 36 T SCH, ultra-widebore 900 MHz, 850 MHz, 2

800 MHz, 600 MHz DNP, 3
