Registered Nurse – Neuro Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Travel Position Location: Asheville, NC Job Type: Travel Contract Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 3×12 Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) Pay: $2,017.80/week (plus $1,800 completion bonus per contract, up to $5,400 after three contracts) Position Summary ATC Healthcare is seeking an experienced Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel assignment in the Neuro Surgical ICU (J4–NSICU) in Asheville, North Carolina. This 12-bed critical care unit provides advanced treatment for complex neurological and neurosurgical patients, including those recovering from strokes, craniotomies, and post-thrombectomy or post-TPA interventions. The ideal candidate is an experienced ICU nurse with neuro critical care expertise, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to deliver safe, compassionate care in a high-acuity environment. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive critical care to patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions. Manage post-thrombectomy and post-TPA stroke patients, as well as post-neurosurgery recovery cases. Perform continuous assessments and respond promptly to acute changes in patient condition. Administer medications, titrate drips, and monitor invasive hemodynamic lines including arterial lines and bedside EVDs (external ventricular drains). Operate and monitor CRRT and Baxter infusion pumps according to protocol. Collaborate with neurologists, neurosurgeons, and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate individualized patient care plans. Float as needed to other ICU units or step-down units per facility policy (travelers float first). Accurately document patient status, interventions, and outcomes in Cerner EMR. Participate in self-scheduling while maintaining coverage for 6 weekend shifts per schedule period. Adhere to hospital safety, infection prevention, and patient confidentiality standards. Qualifications Active North Carolina RN license or Compact State RN license (required). Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred). Minimum of 2 years of recent ICU RN experience, with neuro ICU experience strongly preferred. Required Certifications (AHA):
BLS (Basic Life Support) ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Preferred Certifications:
CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse)
Proficient in managing CRRT, EVDs, and advanced neuro-monitoring equipment. Experience caring for post-neurosurgical and post-stroke patients. Strong critical thinking, multitasking, and collaboration skills. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (medical/religious exemptions and declinations allowed). Recent tuberculosis (TB) test required.
