Join the State of Washington as a Revenue Auditor 3 (RA3). The position is based in the Everett region and is conducted from a work from home office with required travel for field audits.

Job Description The RA3 reports directly to the Audit Supervisor in the WSLCB Finance Division. The role focuses on independent analysis of the production, purchase, and sale of liquor and cannabis products. Duties include educating licensees to improve compliance, assisting other agency divisions and regulatory agencies, and providing assistance to other state agencies. The RA3 engages with complex business industries such as spirits, cannabis, distributors, distillers, breweries, and wineries. In this position you will conduct in‑depth, thorough audits of business activities and tax reporting practices. The RA3 may develop audit plans, lead audit teams, provide education and guidance, and provide recommendations for corrective actions. Senior auditors provide technical guidance and support for new or junior auditors and are directly responsible for the outcomes of audits.
Duties
Complete evaluation of fiscal activities, financial records, procedures, processes and policies to determine compliance with applicable tax/fee laws and correct reporting of tax liability.
Assess the adequacy of accounting procedures, internal controls, and integration with state statutes and regulations to evaluate efficiency, audit trails, and accuracy of records.
Identify signs of fraud and seek guidance from higher‑level audit staff for further action.
Conduct independent audits of wineries, breweries, distributors, cannabis and spirits retailers, assess tax and fee liability, provide education on reporting, verify purchases and sales, and analyze licensee internal control systems.
Apply the RCW and WAC related to cannabis, spirits, beer, and wine audits and communicate findings to licensees.
Prepare audit findings and recommendations for licensees, accountants, attorneys, agency management, and other governmental agencies.
Perform investigative audits of distillers, liquor manufacturers, importers, wholesalers, and retailers for compliance with liquor laws and regulations.
Travel to audit sites and conduct work at field locations as required.
Train peer auditors and collaborate on large, complex audits as part of a team.
Collect data from systems used for cannabis, spirits, and beer & wine audits.
Safeguard agency assets and oversee interview and evaluation of lower‑level auditors.
Serve as auditor‑in‑charge for team audits, providing leadership, direction, and oversight.
Qualifications
Option 1:
7 years of relevant professional experience in accounting or auditing plus 24 semester or 36 quarter credit hours in accounting.
Option 2:
Associate’s degree in accounting or related field (24 semester or 36 quarter credit hours) plus 5 years of relevant professional experience.
Option 3:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field (24 semester or 36 quarter credit hours) plus 3 years of relevant professional experience.
Option 4:
Master’s degree in accounting or related field (24 semester or 36 quarter credit hours) plus 1 year of relevant professional experience.
Preferred qualifications:
Intermediate proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook; interpretation of RCW and WAC; and certifications such as Certified Public Accountant, Certified Government Financial Manager, Certified Management Accountant, or Certified Fraud Examiner.
