Senior COBOL Developer
and support critical health solutions in Madison, WI and approved remote states.
Role Snapshot Leverage modern mainframe technologies to enhance, maintain, and develop complex applications and detailed technical specifications. Drive client requirements, cross‑functional collaboration, and production support for our healthcare services.
Responsibilities
Lead design, development, deployment, and ongoing maintenance of COBOL programs in a CICS, DB2, VSAM environment.
Interpret client requirements, prepare specifications, and produce documentation in accordance with departmental standards.
Analyze, design, test, and integrate applications following SDLC and change control processes.
Provide comprehensive analysis, design, and support for departmental applications and programs.
Coordinate and communicate development activities with QA, database, and infrastructure teams.
Mentor and review code for performance and maintainability.
Qualifications
U.S. citizenship required (DoD contract).
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
5+ years of mainframe application development, including advanced COBOL, TSO, JCL, CICS, MVS, and File Aid.
Proficiency with VSAM, DB2, and SQL.
Experience applying Agile methodology.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with WPS’s Mainframe systems or Tricare business line.
Excellent source‑control practices (e.g., Git, ClearCase).
