Organizational Context The position is located within the Health Services Administration Division (HSA) of DYRS, responsible for providing comprehensive medical services to detained and committed youth. The unit includes the New Beginnings and Youth Services Center facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive nursing care to youth, including personal care, diagnostic support, treatment procedures, ambulation, range-of-motion exercises, and charting.

Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized Plans of Care (POC) and Treatment Plans (TP) for serious or emergency situations, considering age, developmental level, and diagnosis.

Document nursing services, medical care, and treatments; collaborate with interdisciplinary team members while maintaining confidentiality.

Coordinate health care needs and discharge planning through referrals to community resources and other health care providers.

Administer medications and treatments authorized by medical staff.

Qualifications and Education

Graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor’s, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program.

At least one full year of professional nursing experience (GS-7 or higher) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program.

Master’s degree in professional nursing is preferred.

One year of specialized experience directly related to the position, equivalent to the next lower grade level.

Licenses and Certifications

Passing grade on the National Council Licensure Examination.

Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse in the District of Columbia.

Current driver’s license may be required.

Working Conditions / Environment Work is performed in close proximity to court-involved youths within a secured juvenile facility, posing associated risks to personal safety and property.
