Job Summary Tech B & A: Provides quality services and/or products while focusing on customer satisfaction and safety.

Special Tech I & II Provides leadership to other employees while performing quality services and/or products while focusing on customer satisfaction and safety.

Essential Functions

Performs all duties in a safe manner at all times.

Services, inspects and installs residential and commercial gas and electric appliances and HVAC equipment to comply with codes and ensure superior service in terms of safety, reliability, customer satisfaction and monetary value. Develops, maintains and demonstrates related skill proficiency based on changes in products and/or technology in order to provide service excellence. Demonstrates efficient, accurate and productive work practices.

Maintains and repairs the gas distribution system, including but not limited to gas meters and regulators to assure safe and continuous service to customers. Work will be performed in an efficient, accurate and productive manner.

Promotes and accepts accountability for providing superior customer satisfaction and selling of Home Service Plus products and services (e.g., Service Plus contracts, options, Safety Plus and Home Comfort Sales referrals) to customers. Maintains professional working relationships with internal and external customers.

Responds to emergency situations to assure the safe delivery of natural gas and to maintain public and personal safety.

Completes record keeping associated with appliance service and distribution functions to ensure an accurate information system is maintained. Operates company vehicle safely. Maintains vehicle and parts inventory. Personal protective equipment and tools according to company standards and policies.

Performs other related tasks including, but not limited to leak survey work, line locating, foreign construction work, storekeeping, meter reading, chart changing, transporting appliances and equipment, and fleet and facilities maintenance to ensure the efficient operation of the work unit.

Participates in training externally and internally, both field and classroom to increase job knowledge and competency. Advises and assists other employees on the job to provide technical, safety and procedural knowledge.

Education Description

Requires successful completion of a 1 or 2-year certificate, diploma or associate degree program (minimum of 2 semesters or 3 quarters) at an accredited educational institution in heating, refrigeration and air conditioning, or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent technical skills.

Experience Tech B: Entry level position

Without a technical degree, minimum of 2 years' experience in heating, refrigeration and air conditioning.

Tech A

Must be 6 months in a current position of Tech B.

Special Tech II

Must have met all of the contractual requirements required for the Special II Level.

Able to possess a Journeyman Gasfitter and Refrigeration Certificate of Competency.

Able to demonstrate working knowledge of State of Minnesota Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Code as applied to all gas equipment and gas piping.

Able to possess a Journeyman Certificate of Competency in areas of steam/hot water and warm air preferred.

Able to meet the Operator Qualification requirements for this position or become qualified within the timeframe established by the Company.
