Base pay range: $80,000.00/yr - $100,000.00/yr
The Civil Engineer will collaborate closely with clients, engineers, architects, project managers, and construction supervisors on a wide range of projects involving land development, grading, drainage, pavement, roadway, and utility design. This role involves transforming conceptual designs into detailed construction documents using AutoCAD and related software tools, while ensuring technical excellence and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed engineering drawings and specifications (construction documents), including general sheets, demolition plans, site plans, utility plans, grading plans, and construction details.
Develop specifications in compliance with industry-standard CSI formats.
Apply a solid understanding of California Building Codes and other applicable regulations.
Participate in the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) review process, including coordination with city/county departments, the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM), and the Division of the State Architect (DSA).
Interface with clients, users, project managers, and multidisciplinary design teams, including architects, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection engineers.
Prepare AutoCAD and PDF drawings, Excel-based calculations, and Word documents for reports and meeting notes.
Perform cost estimating and prepare Rough Order-of-Magnitude (ROM) estimates.
Conduct Bluebeam peer reviews for internal quality control.
Project Types Design and documentation experience across multiple sectors, including:
Public Sector: California State Agencies (DGS, DSH, CalVet), LA City and County Public Works
Education: Schools, universities, and colleges (LAUSD, UCLA, UC Irvine, etc.)
Correctional & Law Enforcement: Jails, prisons, police, sheriff, and fire departments (CDCR, FBOP, CalFire, OCSD, etc.)
Industrial: Laboratories and R&D facilities
Commercial: Office buildings and mixed-use developments
Aerospace: Clients such as Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, HRL, and JPL
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
2–5 years of relevant experience in civil design and site development
E.I.T. certification preferred
Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
Strong technical, communication, and writing skills
Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision
Experience with AHJ review processes (OSFM, DSA, city and county plan checks)
Experience with commercial and industrial project design
COVID-19 vaccination (if required by project or client)
