Vice President, Corporate Controller

$2 billion in annual revenue
— in the search for a
Vice President, Controller . The company is currently building out a headquarters in the
Chicagoland suburbs
and is seeking a strategic and operational finance leader to join its executive team.
This role is based in the Chicago metropolitan area, and candidates must be located in the region.
Position Summary The VP Controller will be responsible for the integrity of the company’s financial reporting and accounting operations. This role oversees all aspects of accounting, including general ledger, technical accounting, inventory, lease and revenue accounting, tax compliance, shared services (AP/AR), and audit coordination. The ideal candidate will be a change agent who can operate at both strategic and tactical levels, driving automation, process improvement, and compliance with GAAP and private equity reporting standards.
Key Responsibilities Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting
Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across all entities
Prepare consolidated financial statements and footnote disclosures
Conduct technical accounting research and prepare supporting documentation
Oversee inventory accounting, lease accounting (ASC 842), and revenue recognition (ASC 606)
Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) and SOX compliance
Drive ERP optimization and financial systems transformation
Tax Compliance Oversight
Manage federal, state, local, and international tax filings
Ensure accurate accounting for income taxes (ASC 740)
Partner with external advisors and internal stakeholders on audits and tax strategy
Monitor legislative changes and assess financial impact
Support tax planning aligned with business and private equity goals
Shared Services Oversight (AP/AR)
Lead AP and AR teams to ensure timely and accurate processing
Implement automation and best practices to improve efficiency
Monitor working capital metrics and optimize cash flow
Maintain strong internal controls and compliance
Audit & Compliance
Lead external audit engagements and manage auditor relationships
Ensure timely delivery of audit schedules and documentation
Monitor compliance with debt covenants, tax filings, and regulatory requirements
Collaborate with legal and compliance teams
Strategic Leadership & Private Equity Partnership
Serve as a key finance leader in investor-grade reporting and board presentations
Collaborate with FP&A, Treasury, and Operations on strategic initiatives
Support M&A due diligence, integration, and purchase accounting
Act as a thought partner to the CFO and executive leadership
Team Development & Process Improvement
Build and mentor a high-performing accounting, tax, and shared services team
Champion automation and continuous improvement
Implement scalable processes to support rapid growth
Qualifications
Proven experience as a Corporate Controller in mid-to-large product-based companies
Experience in private equity-backed environments is
critical
Strong leadership across accounting, reporting, shared services, and tax
CPA and public accounting experience highly preferred
Demonstrated ability to lead change and solve complex problems
Chicago area candidates will be prioritized
