Position Summary The Department of Romance Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position: Assistant Professor in Modern/contemporary Hispanic Caribbean Studies to begin July 1, 2026. The successful candidate will join a vibrant community of scholars and students with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and support through research units such as the Institute for the Study of the Americas, the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Research in Black Culture and History, the American Indian Center, and UNC’s Latino/a Studies Program. The position carries a 2-2 teaching load.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements PhD in Spanish, or related degree.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience The successful candidate will have a record of research and teaching excellence, and administrative experience and/or potential. Research areas we are looking to strengthen include but are not limited to Medical Humanities, Literature and the Law, Digital Humanities, Migration, and Afro-Caribbean Studies. The successful candidate will maintain an active research program, teach a range of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and perform service for the department and university, along with a share of advising PhD dissertations.
