The HR Generalist is responsible for providing comprehensive support in all areas of human resources, with a focus on payroll administration, recruiting, onboarding, and workers’ compensation. This role ensures HR processes run smoothly, supports employees and managers with day-to-day HR needs, and helps maintain compliance with company policies and employment laws.

Key Responsibilities Payroll Administration

Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with wage and hour laws.

Address payroll-related inquiries from employees.

Partner with Finance to reconcile payroll data and reporting.

Manage full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, applicant screening, interviews, and offers.

Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs.

Maintain applicant tracking systems and ensure a positive candidate experience.

Onboarding & Employee Experience

Coordinate new hire onboarding, including paperwork, orientations, and system setup.

Ensure compliance with federal and state requirements for new hires (I-9, E-Verify, etc.).

Support employee engagement initiatives and retention strategies.

Serve as a point of contact for employee HR-related questions.

Maintain accurate and organized employee files, I-9s, payroll documentation, and benefit enrollment records in accordance with federal, state, and donor regulations.

Conduct regular internal HR audits to ensure compliance with labor laws, grant requirements, and organizational policies.

Manage workers’ compensation claims and act as a liaison with insurance carriers.

Track and report workplace injuries, ensuring compliance with OSHA and state requirements.

Coordinate light-duty accommodations and return-to-work processes.

Assist with HR audits, recordkeeping, and policy compliance.

General HR Support

Assist with benefits administration during open enrollment and throughout the year.

Support employee relations by addressing concerns and escalating issues as needed.

Maintain HRIS data integrity and generate reports as requested.

Participate in HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

3+ years of HR experience, including payroll, recruiting, onboarding, and workers’ comp.

Knowledge of HR laws and regulations (FMLA, FLSA, ADA, OSHA, etc.).

Experience with HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., Paycom, ADP, Workday, etc.).

Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.

Preferred

PHR/SHRM-CP certification.

Nonprofit or multi-site experience
