Public Safety Officer Senior – Orange Coast College
Orange Coast College seeks an experienced Public Safety Officer Senior to provide proactive security, law enforcement, and public information duties across campus.
Essential Responsibilities
Provide leadership and oversight for Public Safety Officers on campus and events, prioritizing surveillance patterns.
Monitor campus activity to ensure safety and security of students, staff, and authorized visitors during business hours.
Enhance customer relations by providing information and assistance to students, staff, and visitors.
Attend student‑faculty meetings, receive feedback, and recommend patrol routines.
Convey college policy and respond to inquiries regarding student conduct.
Anticipate and intervene in incidents where students or property may be at risk.
Inspect campus property and facilities, manage monthly inspections, and address suspicious activity.
Investigate complaints, incidents, and hazardous situations, interview witnesses.
Provide security at district and campus functions, control parking, and enforce regulations.
Detect and report fire hazards, respond to alarms, and coordinate with fire department.
Cooperate with other law enforcement agencies in investigations.
Collaborate with staff to promote student safety and reduce risks.
Serve as public contact for assistance from the Public Safety Department.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Associate of Arts/Science degree, 21 years of age, and at least three years as a Public Safety Officer.
Valid driver’s license and completion of required security training courses (e.g., 832 P.C., SB 1626, APCERT). Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
Knowledge of California Education Code, District policies, and motor vehicle code.
Strong communication, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to perform physical duties required for the role.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in campus safety or law enforcement.
Knowledge of the Jeanne Clery Act, Kristen Smart Act, and Safe Schools Act.
Completion of a POST‑certified Basic Course (664 hours).
