Job Description

The University of Missouri Physics Department is seeking a creative individual eager to expand their knowledge, skills and abilities in the machine shop. A strong attention to detail and commitment to safety are required for this position. The Physics Machine Shop performs a wide variety of design & fabrication work for the University as well as various other research facilities nationally and abroad. The shop is well equipped with manual lathes, mills, surface grinder, and CNC machines. Key Responsibilities Operate machine tools in a safe and efficient manner Work with a wide variety of materials and cutting tools Interpret drawings and blueprints accurately Use measuring instruments and perform quality control Program, setup, and operate CNC lathe and mill Use MasterCAM to make drawings and program CNC machines Use TIG welding to make leak tight joints Repair and maintain lab equipment Keep a clean and organized work area

Shift

This position is in person, located on the campus of the University of Missouri - Columbia. Generally, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Must be able to lift over 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate's degree and at least 3 years machine shop experience NIMS Certification or other comparable credentials Strong mechanical background indicating knowledge and aptitude of using hand tools and making repairs

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $18.87 to $26.87/hour Grade: GGS - 008 University Title: Research Engineering Technician I Internal applicants can determine their university title by accessing the Talent Profile tile in myHR.
