Business Officer
Department of Biology, UNC Greensboro – North Carolina
Position Summary The Business Officer provides administrative and financial support to the Biology Department and its faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate lab staff. Core duties include human resources management, budget and payroll administration, and general office support for the Department Head.
Key Responsibilities
Human Resources – oversee SHRA/EHRA payroll, staff searches, promotion dossiers, and onboarding.
Financial Operations – manage faculty and staff salaries, temporary salary reserves, graduate stipends, and state funds, and coordinate budget requests.
Administrative Support – lead training grants reporting, manage the Department Head’s calendar and communications, and coordinate special budget requests with the Dean’s Office.
Staff Management – supervise and train office staff, conduct performance reviews, and maintain budget request processes.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field and 2–4 years of experience (or equivalent combination).
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Banner and experience with university office management.
Supervisory experience and strong communication skills.
Salary & Benefits Annual salary range: $64,000 – $71,000. Full-time, permanent appointment. FLSA exempt. Benefits include university health, retirement, and paid leave.
