The Health Physicist is a vital member of Purdue's Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) in supporting the radiation safety program by ensuring a safe and compliant research, clinical, and instructional environment across Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indianapolis, and regional campuses, advancing discovery within one of America\'s leading research universities. This position is essential for overseeing the safe use of radioactive materials, x-ray devices, lasers, and the research reactor (PUR-1). Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Radiation Safety Officer, and the radiation safety team to maintain a comprehensive radiation safety program Recognize, evaluate, and control sources of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation by performing audits, inspections, and field surveys Support and manage radiation authorizations, ensuring all authorized users are trained and remain in compliance with state and federal regulations Provide effective safety training for faculty, staff, and researchers Administer and maintain radiation dosimetry and exposure records, and actively promote ALARA principles in all safety initiatives Respond to radiological incidents and emergencies, and participate in a 24-hour on-call emergency response rotation Prepare reports and analyze data to support regulatory compliance, and facilitate continual improvement in campus radiation safety practices Foster strong communication and working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds across academic, research, and clinical units What We're Looking For

Education and Experience Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Health Physics or closely related field (e.g., Environmental Health, Chemistry, Biology or Physics, etc.) is required For the Health Physicist position you will need the above and the following: A Bachelor\'s Degree in Health Physics or closely related field (e.g., Environmental Health, Chemistry, Biology or Physics, etc.) is required Two (2) years of previous experience in Health Physics required Preferred

Working experience in an academic environment, hospital or research facility Skills Needed

Knowledge of health physics fundamentals and federal radiation regulations (Title 10) is required Strong verbal and written communication skills are required A strong commitment to customer service and the philosophy of the EHS Mission Statement are essential Good organizational and computer skills are required A working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is required Must be able to develop and present training programs Have a demonstrated ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships and build mutual trust and respect with others and maintain them over time Have a high standard of integrity, performance, and professional behavior The ability to achieve consensus and convince others to change their minds and/or actions is necessary The ability to obtain certification by the Indiana State Department of Health for non-medical and diagnostic within six months of employment in this position is preferred Additional Information
