UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine Under supervision of the Small Animal OR and Surgical Services supervisor, responsible for the aseptic preparation of patients for various surgical procedures and operating room set up and break down. Responsible for set up, operation and troubleshooting of various specialized surgical equipment. Responsible for being an OR circulator as well as acting as a sterile first assistant to the surgeon during various surgical procedures as needed. Restrain patients and transport patients as needed. Work cooperatively with others to foster strong team commitments towards achieving surgery services objectives.
RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the apply by date.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
Must possess a valid Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 3 months of date of hire. No Minimum Education requirement. Experience working in a veterinary hospital environment with small animals and providing animal restraint, including positioning and preparing patients for various surgical procedures. Experience in anticipating surgeons and patient needs during surgery and providing requested instrumentation and equipment. Experience with surgical asepsis and how it relates to direct contamination of patients, instruments and sterile supplies. Experience performing hospital cleaning/sanitation. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to engage effectively with diverse students, staff, clinicians, and clients. Familiarity with basic surgical terminology and surgical instruments.
Preferred Qualifications
Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) License. Experience in preparing O.R. and related areas, procure, set-up and review basic surgical equipment, instruments and supplies prior to and after surgery. Aseptically scrub, gown and glove. Experience setting up, operating and troubleshooting various specialized surgical equipment.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.
