Exam Number: JC8697A-EA Type of Recruitment: Open Competitive Opportunity The LA County Board of Supervisors declared a local state of emergency for homelessness. The County is expanding its response to address housing, mental health, and substance use. This opportunity is for a professional interested in benefiting the population of LA County. The Department of Justice Care and Opportunities is seeking qualified candidates for an emergency Clinical Psychologist II vacancy related to the homelessness crisis. Under the emergency order, applicants meeting requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment. Initial performance will be assessed with a weighted evaluation (100%). Those who pass may be considered for permanent appointment to Clinical Psychologist II.

Responsibilities

Initiates and carries out psychological research studies and provides rationale to implement departmental or service programs; collaborates on multidisciplinary projects.

Plans treatment programs and disposition of cases as part of a professional, multidisciplinary team; identifies treatment outcomes.

Performs direct service activities including diagnostic evaluation, structured clinical interviewing, and individual, group, and family therapy.

Generates reports of diagnostic and psychological findings and/or treatment recommendations.

Provides testimony before courts of law on results of psychological evaluations.

Intervenes with clients to enhance treatment participation, including defining goals and designing intervention strategies that support recovery and resiliency.

Obtains and studies medical, psychological, social, and family histories; interviews individuals, couples, or families and reviews relevant records.

Provides consultation to other medical providers on psychological and behavioral aspects of medical conditions.

Provides technical guidance and instruction to interns and license-waivered psychologists.

Selects, administers, and interprets a wide variety of psychological testing instruments for diagnosis and evaluation of clients with psychiatric and co-occurring disorders.

Evaluates client response to treatment, modifies treatment strategies, and includes the client in decision-making.

Utilizes a range of treatment modalities such as psychotherapy, behavior modification, and evidence-based or promising practices (e.g., cognitive-behavioral therapy).

Participates in advisory capacity in screening new professional personnel in psychology (trainees or psychology interns).

Minimum Qualifications To be considered for this position, you must possess a Doctorate* from an accredited college or university in one of the following (as listed by the State of California):

Psychology

Educational Psychology

Education with a field specialization in Counseling Psychology

Other discipline deemed equivalent by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Psychology

Additional Qualifications (At Time of Hire)

Psychologist license issued by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Psychology.

License A valid California Class C Driver License or ability to use an alternative method of transportation to carry out job-related essential functions. All licenses and certifications must be active and unrestricted, or the application will not be accepted.

Physical Class PHYSICAL CLASS II:

Light — This class includes positions with light physical effort; occasional lifting to 10 pounds; some bending, stooping, or squatting; considerable ambulation.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience in a clinical or hospital setting.

Experience with quality assurance work and QA techniques/strategies.

Experience participating in multidisciplinary case conferences.

Experience providing or participating in Case Consultations.

Experience in quality improvement techniques and strategies.

Examination Content The examination consists of evaluation of experience based on application information and desirables, weighted 100%. Performance will be evaluated before end of the initial work period; passing candidates may be considered for permanent appointment.
