Position Summary The Brokerage Carrier Sales Manager leads the carrier sales team in sourcing, developing, and managing carrier relationships to support freight brokerage operations. This role drives strategic procurement initiatives, ensures efficient load coverage, and supports company goals related to margin and service. The manager also coaches and mentors team members, leveraging analytics and process improvements to optimize performance and carrier engagement.

Responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

Oversee daily operations of the carrier sales team, ensuring timely and efficient freight booking

Develop and implement strategic carrier procurement plans to meet capacity and margin targets

Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to load coverage, carrier utilization, cost control, and team productivity

Build and maintain strong relationships with key carriers, negotiating competitive rates and service expectations

Collaborate cross-functionally to support operational efficiency and customer satisfaction

Demonstrate a consistently positive and professional demeanor, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment

Encourage constructive dialogue for the team, even during periods of change or challenge

Handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity. Uphold confidentiality standards in all communications and decisions, ensuring trust and compliance with organizational policies and legal requirements

Maintains accurate and timely documentation of employee interactions in accordance with HR policy

Support pricing strategy and market insights to improve competitiveness and margin performance

Other Significant Job Functions Include

Recruit, train, and mentor carrier sales representatives, providing feedback and performance development

Promote use of digital tools and platforms (e.g., TMS, AI-based freight matching) to increase efficiency

Assist in resolving escalated service or carrier compliance issues in a timely and professional manner

Support pricing strategy and market insights to improve competitiveness and margin performance

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred

Minimum of 4 years of experience in transportation brokerage, including at least 2 years in a leadership or carrier sales role

Preferred Qualifications

In-depth knowledge of the freight brokerage industry, carrier networks, and market dynamics

Experience with TMS platforms and digital freight matching technologies

Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment

Required Skills

Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-pressure, fast-paced setting

High level of ownership and accountability throughout the shipping lifecycle

Strong attention to detail with a focus on process optimization and customer experience
