– Evening Shift, Full-Time – Permanent Washington Veterans Home, Port Orchard, Washington Serve America's heroes with your medical expertise. We are accepting applications for a full-time, evening shift Licensed Practical Nurse 2 at the Washington Veterans Home in Port Orchard, WA. Please Note:
The expected work hours are rotating days from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on a rotating basis. This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L; Step M is not published as this is the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules. Updated as of July 1, 2025: This position is eligible for Supplement Basic Shift Premium for 24/7 Facilities. Employees assigned to a facility that provides direct care to residents and whose duties are on location will receive an additional $1.00 per hour of supplemental basic shift premium for each hour of basic shift premium. The shift premium does not apply to overtime hours. The supplemental basic shift premium expires on June 29, 2027. Responsibilities
Provide resident-centered care and ensure a safe, healthy, and respectful environment for residents at the Washington Veterans Home in Port Orchard. Assist and monitor residents with activities of daily living following current nursing standards of practice and a patient-centered approach aligned with the mission. Prepare, carry out, evaluate, and revise treatment plans based on observations and recommendations from physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other nurses. Pass medications, administer treatments, monitor resident condition (including skin assessments), and promote resident participation in recreational activities. Perform suctioning, oxygen administration, catheterization, irrigation; administer IV solutions, colostomy and tracheostomy care; maintain gastric feeding tubes and pumps. Process physician orders and assist with routine rehabilitative and maintenance care. Support additional duties as assigned. Qualifications
Required: Current Washington state practical nurse license or unencumbered practical nurse multistate license. Ability to demonstrate proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking) and to perform data entry, maintain confidentiality, and document patient changes and behavior. Preferred/Desired: Washington state practical nurse license preferred. Long-term care experience and/or one year of practical nurse experience. Understanding of nursing and restorative care practices, infection control, documentation, and client rights. Experience in assessing and contributing to development of care plans. Special Requirements: Must pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000; background information will be considered in determining suitability and competence. Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening per policy 670.000. Must be able to wear respiratory protection and PPE as required by Safety standards. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs and reach 36 inches; capable of walking, sitting, and bending as needed. Must maintain a valid practical nursing license with the State of Washington Department of Health. Must maintain regular attendance and be willing to work as needed. Must complete mandated orientation and annual trainings. Must comply with all WDVA policies, procedures, and applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Must sign the confidentiality statement for all employees. Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
