Overview
Licensed Practical Nurse 2 — Day Shift, Full-Time - Permanent Washington Veterans Home, Port Orchard, Washington Serve America's heroes with your medical expertise. This position is open for full-time, day shift Licensed Practical Nurses 2 at the Washington Veterans Home in Port Orchard, WA. Note: The expected work hours are rotating days from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on a rotating basis. This position is posted within the assigned pay range through Step L; Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules. Updated as of July 1, 2025: Eligible for Supplement Basic Shift Premium for 24/7 Facilities. Eligible employees receive an additional $1.00 per hour of basic shift premium for each hour of basic shift premium when assigned to a facility providing direct care on-site. The premium expires June 29, 2027. Responsibilities
Provide resident-centered care and ensure a safe, healthy space for Veterans at the Washington Veterans Home in Port Orchard, with care aligned to personal needs and dignity. Assist and monitor residents with activities of daily living based on current nursing standards of practice. Prepare, carry out, evaluate, and revise treatment plans for individual residents based on observations and recommendations from physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other nurses. Pass medications, administer, monitor, and record treatments; assess resident condition (including skin assessment) and promote participation in recreational activities. Suction patients, administer oxygen, catheterization, irrigation; manage IV solutions, colostomy and trach care; maintain gastric feeding tubes and pumps. Process physician orders and assist with routine rehabilitative and maintenance care. Other duties as required. Required
Current Washington state practical nurse license or unencumbered practical nurse multistate license. Ability to demonstrate proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking), perform data entry, maintain confidentiality, provide a positive living environment, follow directions, and document and report observed changes in patient condition and behavior. Preferred/Desired
Washington state practical nursing license preferred. Long-term care experience and/or one year of practical nurse experience. Understanding of nursing and restorative care methods, personal hygiene, sanitation, recordkeeping, infection control, and client rights. Experience assessing, evaluating, and participating in care plans. Special Requirements
Must pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two years per WDVA Policy 615.000. Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening per DVA policy 670.000. Must be able to wear a respirator and appropriate PPE as required; training and medical evaluation will be provided. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs and reach up to 36 inches; able to walk, stand, sit, and bend as needed. Must maintain a valid practical nursing license from the Washington State Department of Health. Must maintain regular attendance and be willing to work as needed. Must complete mandatory orientation and annual trainings within specified timeframes. Must comply with all DVA policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable. Must sign the confidentiality statement for all employees. Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver’s license and be insured if using a private vehicle for state business.
