Overview
Examiner Physician Assistant role at Loyal Source Government Services. The position involves conducting Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). Work may include charting from home and performing focused assessments, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering medical opinions based on the record review and C&P exam. Each examiner contributes to the Veteran's experience during examinations and aims to facilitate access to treatment and continuity of care when needed. Job Responsibilities
Conduct Comprehensive Medical Disability Examinations: perform thorough evaluations of Veterans, including reviewing medical history, conducting physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. 10% travel to include other Loyal Source clinics. Review and Analyze Medical Records: assess medical records, diagnostic test results, and other pertinent documentation to understand the Veterans medical history and health condition. Render Objective Medical Opinions: provide unbiased, evidence-based medical opinions regarding the extent of health issues and their impact on work ability and daily activities based on examination findings, diagnostics, and records. Case Management and Collaboration: understand and work in case management systems, organize workload, submit examination findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team; collaborate with other healthcare professionals as needed. Document Examination Findings: record findings in medical opinions and recommendations in clear reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations. Cross-Department Collaboration: partner with all Loyal Source departments to gain support and meet deadlines. Scheduling and Availability: manage time effectively and submit availability and scheduling for all C&P exams to support service delivery to Veterans. Compliance and Quality: adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and quality. Quality Assurance: work with QA to submit thorough and accurate examination findings and maintain VA training compliance and program requirements. Confidentiality: safeguard patient information in accordance with privacy and security protocols; ensure HIPAA compliance, including annual assessments for those with access to patient data. Qualifications
Education and Licensing: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with an active, unrestricted PA license in the United States; must not be barred from practicing. Experience: at least 1 year of experience as a Physician Assistant; prior medical disability examination experience is preferred. Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, including renewals. Military Experience: previous military experience or familiarity with the military or veteran communities preferred. Skills: strong clinical, analytical, communication, ethics, and time-management abilities; ability to work independently and collaboratively; proficiency in medical documentation and interpreting diagnostic tests; compassionate, patient-centered approach. Other: authorized to work in the United States and able to meet federal contractor requirements. Additional Details
Reasoning: ability to apply common sense, follow detailed instructions, and handle problems with multiple variables. Technological Ability: proficient with MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, and electronic medical records; familiarity with Teams and LMS platforms preferred. Physical Requirements: ability to stand/sit for prolonged periods and lift up to 15 pounds; ability to perform comprehensive physical examinations.
