Examiner Physician Assistant

As an Examiner, you will be conducting Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) in relation to their in-service injury claims. The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed Compensation & Pension (C&P) exam. Charting from home may be required for this position. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran, aiming to positively impact each Veteran through an exceptional examination experience. These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial in the VA’s process for determining benefits Veterans can receive as a result of service-connected health issues. Our clinical insights help facilitate access to treatment subspecialists when necessary, contributing to continuity of care for those who need it most. Clinical Examiners will use a web-based examination form in a proprietary online system to capture patient information throughout the examination process. Qualified candidates must hold an active license, be able to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and adapt to changing situations. Pay: Base + Monthly Incentive = $158,778 - $188,780 per year. Location: Remote work with potential travel to clinics (10% travel). Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm; holidays clinics are closed. Responsibilities
Conduct Comprehensive Medical Disability Examinations: Perform thorough and focused medical evaluations of Veterans, including reviewing medical history, conducting physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. Travel up to 10% to other Loyal Source clinics may be required. Review and Analyze Medical Records: Assess medical records, diagnostic test results, and other pertinent documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Veteran's medical history and health condition. Render Objective Medical Opinions: Provide unbiased, evidence-based medical opinions regarding the extent of health issues and their impact on work ability and daily activities based on examination findings, diagnostics, and records. Case Management & Collaboration: Understand and work in the case management system, organize workload, submit examination findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team. Coordinate with healthcare professionals as needed to obtain additional information. Document Examination Findings: Accurately record findings in medical opinions and recommendations following VA guidelines and contractual obligations. Team Collaboration: Partner with Loyal Source departments to gain support and use resources to complete tasks and meet deadlines. Compliance & Quality: Adhere to laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations, ensuring accuracy and fairness in evaluations. Work with QA to submit thorough findings and maintain VA training and program requirements. Confidentiality & Security: Safeguard patient information in accordance with privacy and security protocols; comply with HIPAA requirements and pass annual compliance assessments. Qualifications
Education & Licensing: Accredited Physician Assistant program graduate; valid, unrestricted PA license in the United States (50 states, DC or territories) and not barred from practice. Experience: At least 1 year of experience as a Physician Assistant; previous medical disability examinations or related field preferred. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with renewals; prior military experience or familiarity with military/veteran communities preferred. Skills: Proficient in comprehensive medical assessments, diagnostic interpretation, and evidence-based medical opinions; strong communication and empathy; detail-oriented; able to work independently and in teams; excellent organizational and time management skills; strong customer focus and sense of urgency. Other: Authorized to work in the United States with compliance for federal contractor guidelines. Other Considerations
Technological Ability: Proficient with MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, web-based platforms, electronic medical records systems; familiarity with Teams and LMS is preferred. Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense, follow detailed instructions, and handle problems with a few variables. Physical Requirements: Prolonged standing and desk work; ability to lift up to 15 pounds; full range of motion required to safely conduct examinations.
