Position Overview Weston Hurd LLP is seeking a Director of Administration & Finance to oversee all aspects of the firm’s administrative and financial operations. Based in Cleveland, Ohio, this is a senior administrative role that will report to, and work closely with, the firm’s Managing Partner, Financial Partner, and Management Committee to plan for the changing needs of the organization and contribute to cost‑effective management throughout the organization.

The new Director of Administration & Finance will work with the current Director for a period of approximately three months prior to their retirement. The current Director has been with the firm for 39 years.

Responsibilities

Provides strategic and tactical leadership to ensure that all office functions and personnel are aligned in providing seamless client service and responsive support.

Directs and oversees administrative support services staff. Leads and manages a professional staff which includes a Controller, Human Resource Manager, Marketing Manager, Docket Supervisor, and IT Field Engineer. Develops strong, helpful, and healthy relationships with all attorneys and staff.

Directs and maintains responsibility for the firm’s financial functions, acting as a key strategic business advisor. Maintains and improves the integrity of the firm’s financial practices.

Provides business management insight and operational advice to the Managing Partner, Management Committee, Firm officers, and practice group leaders. Assists in the implementation of financial and business practices that further the firm’s strategic plan.

Maintains strict confidentiality of discussions with, and among, Managing Partner, Financial Partner, and members of the Management Committee.

Prepares and distributes monthly financial, productivity and profitability reports and analyses to the Management Committee and partners. Evaluates the effectiveness of the report package and implements changes as needed.

Collaborates with the Management Committee and Controller to prepare and implement the annual operating budget. Responsible for monitoring and evaluating monthly revenue and expense variances.

Prepares year‑end profit forecasts to facilitate management decision‑making and partner tax planning.

Oversees relationships with financial institutions, 401(k) investment advisor, 401(k) recordkeeper, insurance companies, managed IT services provider, and accounting firm.

Prepares periodic reports and applications to banks, insurance companies, regulatory and government agencies.

Monitors trends within the legal industry and provides input, recommendations and insights to the Management Committee and partners.

Coordinates with the managed IT service provider and IT Field Engineer to ensure that IT needs of attorneys and support staff are being met.

Responsible for all aspects of managing the physical space of the Cleveland office. Plays integral role in space planning, office relocation and lease negotiations.

Participates in various firm committees including Management, Technology, 401(k) Investment Advisory, Long Range Planning.

Required Skills and Abilities

Strong technical accounting knowledge, including an understanding of partnership accounting, partnership taxation, partner and associate compensation methods.

Ability to identify and analyze complex issues in financial management, technology, and general operations. Strong understanding of best accounting practices. Ability to recommend and implement solutions.

Must be able to provide clear, concise, accurate and well‑substantiated explanations of financial analyses. Comfortable with presentations to groups of attorneys. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Strong understanding of technology implementation and support needs, computer networks, cloud environments, personal computer applications, computerized support tools. Solid proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.

Demonstrated understanding of law firm billing/accounting system software such as SurePoint Technologies Legal Management.

Professional and tactful people skills with ability to interact with a variety of personalities. Ability to work and communicate effectively, individually and in teams, with diverse groups of people.

Comfortable and skillful with hands‑on approach in situations where tasks cannot be delegated.

Strong leadership, management, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to multitask and prioritize.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance. CPA or MBA a plus.

Ten years of experience required; legal industry preferred.
