Overview
Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Inpatient Neurosurgery III, Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital. This position involves Pediatric through Geriatric populations with neurosurgical needs across the spectrum from emergency room to ICU, stepdown and floor. Schedule: Monday - Friday 8-5pm; Rotating Call/Holidays. Newly licensed candidates with neurosurgery clinical rotations are welcome to apply. The role includes seeing neuro patients in clinic, hospital, and OR first assist. Responsibilities
Conducts thorough medical histories, performs complete physical examinations (where indicated), initiates labs, radiology tests or other tests required for evaluation, and develops a working diagnosis and treatment plan in collaboration with the health care team. Performs and interprets routine diagnostic procedures and tests as credentialed and privileged by the hospital. Performs routine and specialized procedures as credentialed and privileged by the hospital. Prescribes and monitors medications as allowed by license and clinic policies. Educates patients about diseases, treatments, medications and potential side effects. Participates in medical rounds; collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members to ensure quality patient care. Refs patients to specialists as appropriate for consultations or specialized resources. Ensures continuity of care by coordinating with multi-disciplinary team members and other specialty areas as necessary. Participates in quality monitoring through review of records and treatment plans to assure quality care. Facilitates appropriate length of stay, discharge planning and regulatory compliance for inpatient management. Supports professional development of the health care team and promotes translation of evidence-based practices and guidelines. May conduct research studies or assist in data collection and analysis. May serve as a clinical preceptor or onboard new caregivers. Other duties as assigned. Education
APRN
– MSN required upon hire or within 3 years of hire for external hires and internal hires moving from non-APRN licensed role to APRN role. Graduate of an accredited APRN program. If in neonatal care service area, Master’s Degree is required upon hire. PA
– Graduate of an ARC-approved Physician Assistant Program. Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or higher from a program recognized by the state Licensing Board. Languages
Oral and written communication in English Certifications
NP
– Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in applicable state(s); must be licensed as an RN in applicable state(s); national certification as a Nurse Practitioner; BLS required; ACLS or PALS (or NRP) may be required depending on setting; must have arrangements with at least one physician as per State Board requirements; must be credentialed and privileged by the hospital. PA
– Certification as a Physician Assistant (NCCPA or equivalent); licensed to practice and prescribe in applicable state; current DEA license; BLS required; ACLS/PALS/ATLS as required by work setting; must have Physician Supervision Agreement and be credentialed and privileged by the hospital. Work Experience
Related clinical experience preferred. Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for long periods; manual/dexterity and eye/hand coordination for examinations; corrected vision and hearing to normal range; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; exposure to body fluids may occur. Personal Protective Equipment
