College/Department Information

Located in Augusta's downtown medical community, Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home provides professional nursing care to Georgia veterans. The home is owned by the Georgia Department of Veterans Service and operated through an agreement with Augusta University, and is a leader in geriatric educational training.

Job Summary

Conducts and coordinates the development of educational programs for all employees, including orientation and disaster preparedness; supervises educational programs presented to staff; maintains in-service records and ensures compliance with state regulations; coordinates clinical rotations for students; serves as an interview panelist for nursing department candidates; conducts facility orientation for new hires, agency staff, and contract staff; educates all departments on required documentation for new hires after onboarding; serves as the primary American Heart Association BLS instructor for the facility; responsible for training, diagnostic data collection and maintenance of AEDs; assists in the absence of the Assistant Director of Nursing; assists with facility supervision during off shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

Educational Mandates : Identify educational needs of nursing staff, assess, plan, implement, and evaluate educational and work experiences; develop and implement programs; stay current on best practices and standards for long-term care facilities.

Orientation : Coordinate and conduct orientation for all new employees including contract agency staff; supervise unit orientation for Nursing department staff in coordination with Nurse Managers; ensure teaching and evaluation of skills.

Record Keeping : Maintain in-service records and documentation for Staff Development Coordinator; ensure staff credentialing and certifications are current; assist with revisions of policies and procedures as needed.

Clinical Rotation Coordination : Coordinate clinical rotations and preceptor experiences for nursing students and other health profession students; collaborate with schools and training centers for rotations, mentors, and preceptorships.

Maintain Knowledge : Attend conferences and trainings annually to stay current in nursing practice.

Skill Checks : Assist with annual skills checks for nursing personnel; serve as house supervisor as needed; perform other related assignments.

Safety Orientation : Orient instructors and students to safety policies and procedures.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with a valid Georgia Registered Nurse license, with five years directly related experience required. Current Georgia license or compact license to practice as an RN. Current American Heart Association BLS CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university preferred. Experience in the care of geriatric residents in long-term care environment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE : Knowledge of performance improvement and proactive assessments; proficiency with Microsoft Office and other software/databases.

SKILLS : Facilitate problem solving for complicated admissions; strong leadership, critical thinking, and decision-making; excellent customer service, interpersonal, multi-tasking, and communication skills.

ABILITIES : Ability to coordinate, implement, and evaluate programs; manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and make independent decisions; effective oral communication and presentation of ideas to all levels.

Certifications/License

Current Georgia license or compact license to practice as an RN. Current American Heart Association BLS CPR certification.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days/M-F (work outside normal hours may be required). Pay Band: B14. Salary commensurate with qualifications within established range. Recruitment Period: Until Filled. Augusta University benefits for full-time employees include health, dental, life insurance, retirement plans, vacation, sick leave, and holidays. Tuition Assistance may be available after 6 months of employment.
