Overview
This posting is being used to fill various Educational Assistant positions at the specified location. The authorized level of these positions is Educational Assistant III. Applications are being accepted down to the Educational Assistant I in the event of recruiting difficulties.
Salary Educational Assistants salary ranges by level are as follows:
Educational Assistant I, SR-10: $3,019.78 per month
Educational Assistant II, SR-12: $3,260.76 per month
Educational Assistant III, SR-14: $3,526.98 per month
Responsibilities
Within a classroom setting, independently performs a variety of academic and non-academic instructional tasks in accordance with established guidelines and available resources.
Provides paraprofessional support services to students with disabilities and assists teachers, both special education and general education, in the delivery of educational and behavioral interventions. May independently provide academic, social, vocational, and daily living instruction to students with disabilities in a school and/or community setting to enable them to function as independently as possible. Adjusts to student needs in response to varied and individual requirements.
Serves as a paraprofessional assistant in the delivery of counseling support services and activities for identified students. Participates as a member of the school support team and implements interventions prescribed by the school support team to address specific academic, behavioral, or social needs.
Basic Education Requirements Applicants must possess a high school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent
and one of the following minimum education requirements, established within the parameters described by the Federal Government's No Child Left Behind Act of 2001:
48 semester credits from an accredited institution, with 3 math and 3 English credits included, or
An Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) degree or higher from an accredited institution, with at least 48 credits at the baccalaureate level, or
Successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment provided by ETS.
Experience Requirements Except for substitutions described below, applicants must have experience described below and shown in the applicable rows labeled General Experience and Specialized Experience.
Educational Assistant I: General 0 years; Specialized 0 years
Educational Assistant II: General 1 year; Specialized 0 years
Educational Assistant III: General 1 year; Specialized 1 year
* One school year is approximately 180 teacher duty days or about 38 weeks per year.
General Experience : Experience involving direct interaction with people, demonstrated ability to organize materials, maintain records, and write brief descriptions of observations, and awareness of educational programs and activities gained through school/community involvement.
Specialized Experience : Work involving direct contact with students, student management, familiarity with common problems in education, use of instructional materials and techniques, and performing instructional, counseling, or guidance tasks and testing routines in an educational setting.
Driver's License :
Some positions require possession of a current, valid driver's license.
Lift and Carry :
Some positions require the ability to lift up to 65 pounds and/or lift and carry up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Allowed Substitutions of Education for Experience
Certificate of Completion in Child Services or related program may substitute for half a year of General Experience.
Coursework toward an Associate in Science degree in Teacher Aide, Educational Assistant, Early Childhood Education or equivalent, with or without practicum, may substitute for portions of General or both General and Specialized Experience as outlined.
Completion of an Associate in Science degree including a practicum may substitute for all General and all Specialized Experience.
Coursework toward a bachelor’s degree may substitute for General Experience in 15 semester credits for half a year, provided there is demonstrated related awareness of educational programs.
Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent may substitute for all General and all Specialized Experience.
Professional Diploma in Education or equivalent may substitute for all General and all Specialized Experience.
Quality of Experience Possession of the required number of years of experience will not by itself qualify a candidate. The overall experience must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Salary:
The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes applicable shortage and school year differentials.
Requirements and Application Information Applicants must meet all requirements for the position as of the date of the application. Education and experience may not be gained concurrently unless specified. Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour workweeks. Part-time experience is pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week equals six months of experience.
