Overview

This posting is being used to fill various Educational Assistant positions at the specified location. The authorized level of these positions is Educational Assistant III. Applications are being accepted down to Educational Assistant I in the event of recruiting difficulties. Salary Range

Educational Assistant I, SR-10: $3,019.78 per month Educational Assistant II, SR-12: $3,260.76 per month Educational Assistant III, SR-14: $3,526.98 per month Responsibilities

Within a classroom setting, independently performs a variety of academic and non-academic instructional tasks in accordance with established guidelines and available resources. Provides paraprofessional support services to students with disabilities and assists teachers, both special education and general education, in the delivery of educational and behavioral interventions. May independently provide academic, social, vocational, and daily living instruction to students with disabilities in a school and/or community setting to enable them to function as independently as possible. Adjusts to student needs due to varied and individual requirements. Serves as a paraprofessional assistant in the delivery of counseling support services and activities for identified students. Participates as a member of the school support team and provides interventions prescribed to reduce a student\'s specific academic, behavioral or social needs.

Basic Education Requirements

Applicants must possess a high school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent AND one of the following minimum education requirements, as established under the Federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001: 48 semester credits from an accredited institution of higher education recognized by the Hawaii Department of Education (3 credits must be in math and 3 credits in English). An Associate in Arts (AA) or Science (AS) degree or higher from an accredited institution recognized by the Hawaii Department of Education, with a minimum of 48 credits for baccalaureate-level coursework. Successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment provided by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). Experience Requirements

Except for substitutions described below, applicants must have the experience described and quantified as General and/or Specialized Experience. Educational Assistant I — General: 0 years; Specialized: 0 years Educational Assistant II — General: 1 year; Specialized: 0 years Educational Assistant III — General: 1 year; Specialized: 1 year *One (1) school year is approximately 180 teacher duty days or about 38 weeks per year. General Experience : Experience involving direct interaction with people and the ability to provide and elicit information, observe and evaluate situations, and take action. Evidence of organizing materials, maintaining records, and writing brief observations. Awareness of basic educational programs and activities gained through school/community involvement. Specialized Experience : Work involving direct contact with students and student management, familiarity with academic, social, behavioral, and developmental problems, and ability to observe resolution by professional staff. Experience using various instructional materials and performing instructional, counseling, or guidance tasks and testing routines. Additional Requirements

Driver's License : Some positions require a current, valid driver\'s license. Lift and Carry : Some positions require the ability to lift up to 65 pounds and/or lift and carry up to 100 pounds with assistance. Allowed Substitutions of Education for Experience

Certificate of Completion in Child Services or related program may substitute for one-half (1/2) year of General Experience. Coursework toward an Associate in Science in Teacher Aide, Educational Assistant, Early Childhood Education or equivalent may substitute for 1/2 year of General Experience per 15 credits (with or without practicum). Coursework toward an Associate in Science degree with practicum may substitute for General and/or Specialized Experience per 15 credits (1/2 year). Associate in Science in related field with practicum may substitute for all General and all Specialized Experience. Bachelor\'s degree coursework may substitute for General Experience with demonstrated awareness of basic educational programs. Bachelor\'s degree in Education or equivalent may substitute for all General and Specialized Experience. Professional Diploma in Education or equivalent may substitute for all General and Specialized Experience. Quality of Experience : Possession of the required years of experience must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position. Salary : The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes applicable differentiation. Other Requirements
