Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations and develops a sales culture by providing outstanding guest service experiences and promoting product knowledge. Responsibilities
Provide best-in-class guest service: greet guests, respond to questions/concerns promptly and courteously, assist with gaming needs, inform guests of promotions, recommend additional items, and circulate throughout the store to prioritize guests over tasks. Support the shopping environment, visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships to drive sales and repeat business. Process guest purchases/returns accurately using the POS system; ensure correct changes, receipts, and high-quality guest service. Respond to guest comments or questions in person or by phone; escalate issues to the Store Manager as needed. Promote GameStop guest benefits (e.g., new title reservations, trade-in program, Pro Rewards). Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations, and train associates on policies, procedures, and guidelines. Observe associate performance, provide feedback, and address unsatisfactory performance as directed. Provide recognition and feedback to associates; document performance in the HR system in partnership with the Store Manager. Ensure onboarding and training for associates before opening or closing shifts; maintain knowledge of policies, inventory control, loss prevention, safety, financial protocol, and ethics. Assist with scheduling, supervise staffing to maintain guest service levels, and ensure adherence to scheduling guidelines. Approve payroll, manage paid time off and time edits, and verify payment accuracy. Ensure store cleanliness, organization, and merchandising per guidelines; maintain functioning fixtures and equipment. Fulfill Omni-Channel orders daily. Protect assets through inventory control and loss prevention; inspect packages at closing as appropriate and communicate concerns to the Store Manager. Support the team in meeting sales, profit, and shrink goals; complete required administrative duties. Conduct stock counts, restock merchandise, and ensure products are represented and organized on the sales floor. Count, balance, and reconcile daily transactions; complete closeout paperwork and ensure adequate cash supply for transactions. Verify shipments, record discrepancies, conduct inventories, and report issues to the Store Manager/District Manager. Process defectives/recalls and stock pulls with proper labeling and packing lists. Maintain guest and associate safety, address hazards, and report injuries per guidelines. Maintain store records/files and ensure manuals are up to date. Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the Store Manager’s absence. Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct. Follow opening and closing procedures. Qualifications
Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States. Must be at least 18 years old. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred. At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred. At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or management experience preferred. Video game knowledge preferred. Outgoing and welcoming personality with strong people skills. Provide genuine and individualized assistance to every guest. Clear verbal/written communication and listening skills; bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment; work independently and in a team. Meet performance expectations including attendance, safety, and respectful workplace conduct. Operate POS system and basic math skills; complete required paperwork properly. Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and some holidays; minimum 3 days/week availability. Ability to work alone and stand/move for extended periods; lift up to 30 lbs and perform physical tasks as needed.
