Description of Work Salary: $37,621–$54,078. Salary Grade: NC05–NC07. The role is full‑time with rotating, fixed, or split shifts, days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime.
Responsibilities
Ensure the care, custody, and control of offenders.
Tour assigned areas, climbing stairs and observing offender activity in person and on closed‑circuit monitors.
Identify offenders with behavioral, medical, or other problems for appropriate safety and security measures.
Perform general security duties to prevent escape, disorder, rule infractions, and harm to offenders, visitors, and staff.
Search offenders, visitors, cells, and other areas for weapons and contraband.
Monitor and regulate offender and staff movement.
Maintain and record offender counts, cell assignments, and other pertinent information.
Escort offenders within and outside the institution.
Use and maintain keys and other equipment.
Supervise offender work details.
Perform additional security duties as required by the specific post assignment.
Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education and experience.
Minimum of one year of experience for Correctional Officer II, two years for Correctional Officer III. Minimum for Correctional Officer I is none.
Active driver's license.
Eligibility for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
Clear communication skills in verbal and written form.
Ability to work any shift, including rotating, fixed, split, and overtime.
Compliance with personal appearance and grooming standards.
Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screening.
