Overview
Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences, Microbiology — Macomb, IL. Appointment: Tenure-track beginning August 20, 2026. This position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Biological Sciences with a focus on Microbiology and Genetics. Additional courses may be developed depending on the candidate's interests and expertise.
Responsibilities The successful candidate is expected to:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Biological Sciences, including Microbiology and Genetics.
Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills with undergraduate and graduate students.
Serve on university committees and advise undergraduate clubs.
Possibly teach during the summer and engage in research opportunities.
Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Earned doctorate in Biological Sciences or closely related discipline by the start of contract.
Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm to teach and conduct research related to area of expertise.
Must meet the physical requirements of conducting field research.
Evidence of actual or potential success in teaching, research, and service.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and experience with newer technologies.
Degree from a regionally accredited institution (or equivalent from an international accrediting body) must be conferred at the time of appointment.
Position Details Type: Full-time, 9-month appointment with potential for summer teaching and research opportunities. Rank & Salary: Assistant Professor, 9-month appointment, $7,242–$7,966 per month, commensurate with experience.
