Assistant Professor of Geographic Information Sciences Western Illinois University invites applications for a tenure‑track appointment as Assistant Professor of Geographic Information Sciences, beginning August 20, 2026, in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Geographic Information Sciences.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in GIS and remote sensing.

Conduct research and publish scholarly work.

Direct graduate students and supervise undergraduate research projects.

Engage in service to the university and the surrounding community.

Partner with the GIS Center to advance interdisciplinary initiatives.

Qualifications

Earned doctorate in Geographic Information Science, Geography, or a related field by the appointment date; ABD is acceptable if the degree is completed before start.

Experience in innovative teaching practices, including technology‑enhanced instruction and delivery of courses in face‑to‑face, online, and hybrid formats.

Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching.

Evidence of creative and innovative contributions to GIS research.

Familiarity with remotely sensed GIS data.

Oral and written proficiency in English.

Degree conferred by a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or equivalent).

Appointment and Salary Tenure‑track, nine‑month appointment. Monthly salary: $7,242.
