Hospital Unit Support Specialist, AM (EastPointe)
EastPointe Hospital is a private, free-standing psychiatric hospital for adults and adolescent males (ages 12 - 18) located in Daphne, Ala. EastPointe’s clinical and medical professionals assess and evaluate adults and adolescents in psychiatric crisis. Treatment focuses on stabilizing psychiatric symptoms and preventing psychiatric commitment. The goal is for each patient to return to home or to the least restrictive level of care.
Overview Primary job functions include office professional responsibilities and comprehensive administrative support within the hospital unit.
Responsibilities
Review documentation for improper corrections, missing signatures, dates, times, etc., and monitor for completeness.
Return incomplete documentation to the program supervisor.
Enter billing information on a daily basis from the DSR into the CSM system accurately.
File documentation in the appropriate section of the consumers’ records as needed.
Complete administrative reviews when needed.
Perform basic clerical functions and census maintenance daily, including the midnight "head in the bed" check.
Complete Compliance Checklists daily.
Make copies and faxes as needed and check the fax regularly.
Assemble charts and check records for availability of forms.
Notify nurses of e-signature changes.
Upon admission, access and print medication lists and medical checklists for active consumers and place on charts.
Notify applicable staff of emergency situations in an appropriate and timely manner.
Ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of the units.
Assist with pulling and locating charts and with other requests.
Maintain the chart tracking (charge-out) system to track the location of each record.
Ensure all charts are accounted for and filed on the chart rack at the end of each shift, with all signatures obtained on progress notes/orders, including restraints and seclusion observation sheets.
Distribute office supply orders for the unit and place supply orders with the administrative assistant as needed.
Access labs daily, print reports, and place on appropriate charts for review.
Ensure unit/nursing supplies are maintained at appropriate levels.
Keep Dietary informed of admissions and print dietary tickets as needed.
Ensure all unit copiers are working properly and report issues to IT.
Assist with facilitating hospital phone time in a professional, organized, and quiet manner.
Serve as back-up for the Admission Support Specialist if necessary.
Complete "head in the bed checks" if Admission Support Specialist is unavailable.
Support Front Desk Support Specialist as needed.
Other duties that may be performed depending on facility
Pull mail.
Run census.
Check for weekend admissions.
Check all room assignments.
Discharge packets for receiving facilities (including ICF units) with Psychiatric evaluation, H&P, Labs and X-rays.
Do not leave without notifying a nurse.
Supervision and consultation
Seek supervision and consultation as needed.
Accept and implement suggestions for improvements.
Actively work to enhance skills.
Customer Service Driven Care
Treat consumers with care, dignity, and compassion.
Respect consumers’ privacy and confidentiality.
Be pleasant and cooperative with others; work collaboratively with AltaPointe employees.
Assist consumers and visitors as needed.

Remain gentle and calm with consumers, families, and others as appropriate.
Proactively problem-solve issues for families and consumers prior to involving supervision or management.
Represent the facility with hospitality during all consumer and guardian encounters.
Be courteous and respectful toward consumers, visitors, and co-workers.
Administrative and other duties
Actively participate in Performance Improvement activities.
Participate in AltaPointe committees as required.
Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
Follow AltaPointe policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements
Continuous sitting (up to 2 hours at a time) and frequent standing/walking.
Reaching forward to place paperwork on a document stand; grasping and handling files.
Lifting and carrying up to 15 pounds to transport small quantities of charts and supplies.
Fine manipulation for data entry, writing, and handling paperwork.
Visual acuity and manual dexterity; ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive motions.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach as needed; use of keys and handling of medical records.
Must be able to lift at least 10 pounds and perform extended duties as required.
Any additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent. Preferred applicants have experience in the healthcare field, with experience related to admissions and discharges.
