Position Overview This is a full‑time attorney position with the Office of the Attorney General in Pierre, South Dakota. The role is inside the Civil Litigation Division, which engages in defensive and affirmative civil litigation for the State.

Responsibilities

Practice civil litigation in both state and federal courts.

Represent the State in potential practice areas including constitutional law, environmental law, Indian law, and prisoner litigation.

Communicate effectively to clients and courts, advocate strongly, and work trially.

Qualifications

JD degree and license to practice law in South Dakota.

Preferred 3 to 5 years of litigation experience, but not required.

Benefits Salary range is between $80,000 to $120,000 annually, depending on experience. The State of South Dakota offers a comprehensive benefit package including retirement, state‑paid health insurance, paid leave, dental, vision, and other insurance options. This position is a member of Class A retirement under SDRS.
